Bruce Lee fighting MMA
« on: May 09, 2010, 04:11:32 PM »
Could Bruce dominate the lower weight divisions of the UFC?

Would he be too limited by the rules (no eye gouging, biting)

Movie star or the real deal?

He was the real deal but how well he would do in MMA would depend on his ability to adjust to the rules.  When you are accustomed to fighting without rules you can never truely let go and end up having to pull back and second guess yourself.

Was Bruce a fan of fighting to prove you can fight, ie, competitive fighting? The answer to your question, lies in the answer to that. If a person is not a fan, then that means, they have no heart for the comp., which means they will not do well.

I believe that though there is some truth to that statement it is not entirely accurate.  There are some guys with all the heart in the world and no ability and conversely guys that rely strictly on talent with little heart.

And I could be wrong but I think this was more of an ability/skill set question. So assuming Bruce Lee was alive and had chosen to compete in MMA, how would he fare?

Well, he had athleticism and was always willing to learn in his prime.

But if you are playing with the thought (how would he do in today's MMA), he would have had to be around 30 years now and being born 1980 instead.

If he was born 1980, who knew how his upbringing would have been, he would probably not have been the same dude at all.

He was a bit ahead of his time though, showing people in US something they've never seen before, and also willing to combine and use things from different arts, which was a new thing back then.

The late 60's and early 70's were great though.

He'd get his ass kicked. The sport has evolved so much from his time. Even a Royce Gracie of the early 90's wouldn't be anything today.

Bruce Lee was an actor, not a fighter.

I don't think he'd do that well in MMA somehow.
