Actually it's Quickness that transfers power to torque into a explosive applied action. Quickness is not to be confused with speed ( lot of other stuff involved here, way too long) . Top athletes tend to be quicker, all thing being equal. That's why so many brothers show superior qualities over other athletes. Their quickness and reaction time, putting things in motion, are well above the average.
Personal view: don't consider PL'ers superior in lifting sports. Olympic lifters, yes by all means. Have to be exceptionally quick, along with applied power, to raise 400lbs plus overhead in a matter of a second or two. Just the distance traveled of a huge weight lifted, off the floor, is impressive. Pl'ers, not so much, with their short ROM in the lifts.
Until Pud gets better at training 360 degrees strength angles (including lateral (bi, tri, quad, etc), learning to use whole body leverage/shifts, etc, with increased stamina (strength & endurance), he's not going to go far in the fighting sport. Give him a good 6 months and let's see how he improves. I get a feeling he could be top dog sometime in the near future. Just does not have the experience and full training as yet.
