Hard to believe it's been 9 years since Mike Mentzer's passing. I was living in Redondo Beach, CA at the time just about a mile and a half from where he lived. He was the one that most influenced and educated me and got me to try to think about what I was doing instead just blindly following the routines in the magazines.
Wonder how deep Ray squatted 925 for a double? You can be sure that they weren't @ss to the grass, but if he broke parallel with them that's just phenomenal!
Ray was a big guy.
Which one? Was it his duo-squat machine? AJ was a genius, and the whole synopsis of his theroy can be summerized as follows: PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD is the end all be all of muscular growth.
has it ever been determined what might have caused Two "supposedly" healthy Men to sudenly died?......the whole thing did not make sense to me. of course, I can always rely on the Obvious.
Is suicide obvious?
Mike was not healthy. It is suspected that Ray might have killed himself. I didn't look into anything so I have no idea.
damn, it's fustrating that nothing was clear up to this day about the cause of death other than the claimed "natural cuases".....Mike never looked like someone who was unhealthy. they said there was a history of heart problems in the family. Maybe, just maybe that has something to do with it.
From what I heard. Mike needed a kidney. Ray was going to give him one of his or something like that. Mike was really sick. They lived together I think too. So when Mike died it really hit Ray and he killed himself. Not sure if that is true but that so far was the only story I ever heard.
I had no idea Mentzer was held in such high regard.....I always thought he was a crackpot
