Essentially what the public is being told is this well will NEVER be capped and will continue to leak 120,000 barrels a day, which it is doing now, for the next 25 to 30 years, which will equal just over ONE BILLION BARRELS of oil. Either their will be world wide repercussions or the nuclear option is being made a easier decision. I just hope the nuclear option doesn't just make a BIGGER HOLE and turn all of the oceans black with oil. This oil is already expected up americaa's east coast very shortly then will cross the Atlantic to Europe and eventually slide down the African coast on its way back to the equatorial region....what a fucking mess...

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “Billion potential barrels of oil” under BP’s ruptured well; “Thing could really explode” expert says

By oilflorida, on June 17th, 2010

CNN’s first mention of concerns about the structural integrity of BP’s blown-out well occurred on the June 16 edition of the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, during an interview with a member of the government’s Flow Rate Technical Group, Professor Steven Wereley.

Blitzer described a conversation he had with an expert who said, “They’re still really concerned about the structural base of this whole operation.” “This thing could really explode,” added Blitzer, “And they’re sitting, what, on — on a billion potential barrels of oil.”

Wereley responded, “I’ve heard concerns about the structural integrity of the well.”  More precisely, the structural concerns were if “the casing of the well is — is faulty at some point.”

The one billion barrels in estimated reserves mentioned by Blitzer is similar to the number stated by Bush Energy Adviser Matthew Simmons during a June 15 interview with Bloomberg TV.

Simmons concluded BP’s ruptured well could flow for 25 to 30 years at a rate of 120,000 barrels a day.

120,000 barrels/day * 365 days/year * 25 years = 1.095 billion barrels.

Wereley interview transcript excerpts from the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, June 16, 2010:

Let’s talk about this with Steven Wereley. He’s an associate engineering professor at Purdue University. He’s a member of the government’s flow rate technical group…

BLITZER: One — one expert said to me — and I don’t know if this is overblown or not — that they’re still really concerned about the structural base of this whole operation, if the rocks get moved, this thing could really explode and they’re sitting, what, on — on a billion potential barrels of oil at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

Is that a real concern or is that just out of the question, unrealistic?

WERELEY: Well, I’ve heard concerns about the structural integrity of the well. In particularly, with the “top kill” — the attempted “top kill,” lots of cement and drilling mud was pumped into the well. And it didn’t come shooting back out of the well and yet it didn’t stop things. So there is some conjecture that the — the casing of the well is — is faulty at some point.

at least we won't be dependent upon saudi oil anymore.  we can just open our door, take a deep breath, and enjoy it for free!

I shouldn't laugh, but that was funny. I guess like the saying goes...BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR...YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT.

I am sure those asking for more oil regret it now, or are trying to restate their request to something like..."We want more oil...just not in our garage, food, sea life, oceans, living rooms, hair, air, drinking water ...."

imagine the 2012 presidential race.  the oceans are shit.  air is dirty.  sea life destroyed.

And you have "Drill baby drill" proponent sarah palin... whose hubby worked for 20 years for BP... screaming she could have stopped all the oil... with the OReilly clip coming back to haunt her as she had no solution when asked directly...

yeah, we might as well just give Obama the 2012 win now, if yall choose her...

I'm sure as hell you're not talkin' about to me personally ... :D The big names in the REpublican party know she's all bullshit. They are not that stupid to take such a huge risk I'll bet you. While she might attract loonies to follow her that's not enough to push her past primaries in case she runs.

I received this today in my email. I don't know how much truth there is to this,
...especially since the name of the engineer was not included so it could possibly be a hoax.

Here's keeping my fingers crossed it's simply a hoax.

I HOPE THIS ENGINEER IS WRONG BECAUSE HIS THEORY SPELLS THE END OF THE WORLD LIFE.

Folks this is no joke this is scary!

    CONCERNING COMMENT FROM AN ENGINEER

If this engineer is right, this is truly a scary scenario!  Here's his story.

"Heard you mention the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico this morning, and you (and most everyone else except maybe US talk show host George Noory) are totally missing the boat on how big and bad a disaster this is.

First fact, the original estimate was about 5,000 gallons of oil a day spilling into the ocean. Now they're saying 200,000 gallons a day. That's over a million gallons of crude oil a week!

I'm an engineer with 25 years of experience. I've worked on some big projects with big machines. Maybe that's why this mess is so clear to me.

First, the BP platform was drilling for what they call deep oil. They go out where the ocean is about 5,000 feet deep and drill another 30,000 feet into the crust of the earth. This it right on the edge of what human technology can do. Well, this time they hit a pocket of oil at such high pressure that it burst all of their safety valves all the way up to the drilling rig and then caused the rig to explode and sink. Take a moment to grasp the import of that. The pressure behind this oil is so high that it destroyed the maximum effort of human science to contain it.

When the rig sank it flipped over and landed on top of the drill hole some 5,000 feet under the ocean.

Now they've got a hole in the ocean floor, 5,000 feet down with a wrecked oil drilling rig sitting on top of is spewing 200,000 barrels of oil a day into the ocean Take a moment and consider that, will you!

First they have to get the oil rig off the hole to get at it in order to try to cap it. Do you know the level of effort it will take to move that wrecked oil rig, sitting under 5,000 feet of water? That operation alone would take years and hundreds of millions to accomplish. Then, how do you cap that hole in the muddy ocean floor? There just is no way No way.

On the longer-term side of things, there are signs that this largest oil drilling catastrophe could also become the worst natural gas and climate disaster. The explosion has released tremendous amounts of methane from deep in the ocean, and research shows that methane, when mixed with air, is the most powerful (read: terrible) greenhouse gas — 26 times worse than carbon-dioxide. Our warming planet just got a lot hotter.

The only piece of human technology that might address this is a nuclear bomb. I'm not kidding. If they put a nuke down there in the right spot it might seal up the hole. Nothing short of that will work.

If we can't cap that hole that oil is going to destroy the oceans of the world It only takes one quart of motor oil to make 250,000 gallons of ocean water toxic to wildlife. Are you starting to get the magnitude of this?

We're so used to our politicians creating false crises to forward their criminal agendas that we aren't recognizing that we're staring straight into possibly the greatest disaster mankind will ever see. Imagine what happens if that oil keeps flowing until it destroys all life in the oceans of this planet. Who knows how big of a reservoir of oil is down there.

Not to mention that the oceans are critical to maintaining the proper oxygen level in the atmosphere for human life.

Unless God steps in and fixes this.  No human can.  You can be sure of that!

Heck, I'm keeping my fingers, toes, eyes, ...even my legs crossed on this one.  :P

I know it has been said before but I really thought they would have had a contingency plan in place before and not after for a distaster at that depth

Wanna know their contingency plan???? All companies have an identical plan..probably word for word.( which is pretty much some words put together that don't mean shit) They all have the same phone number listed for a "specialist" in a certain area who's been DEAD for 5 years.  :'(

  • Doesnt lie about lifting.
Obama gave BP the waiver, turned down help from the Dutch at 17 other nations, directed the CG not to allow the barges to suck up oil, etc.

He has partied, golfed, fund raised, etc.

So yes, he is partly responsible for this.

I posted this before. I thought it was a HOAX as well, because the name of the engineer was missing, yet there was something truthful about it. I posted this some weeks ago (I will have to dig it up) as it stands now this 'engineer's' prediction has turned out correct so far...with worst to come. The only error is, the engineer said 200,000 gallons per day, which we now know to be 120,000 BARRELS PER DAY or upwards of 6,000,000 barrels per day. This oil has now swooped down all the way to the Florida Keys, circled around Florida and is heading up the East coast. One researcher who i posted his predictions and charts shows that it will be in or is already near North Carolina...at that rate the whole east coast is DOOMED. Add to that the ocean currents will carry this oill from americas east coast over to Europe and then down the western side of Africa...this now becomes cataclysmic...
