California welfare recipients have been able to get taxpayer cash — meant to feed and clothe their children — from ATMs at strip clubs across the state, including some well-known gentlemen’s cabarets in Los Angeles.

More than $12,000 from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program was dispensed between the start of 2007 and the end of 2009 at clubs, including Sam’s Hofbrau, Star Strip and Seventh Veil, according to officials at the state Department of Social Services.

that ATm system saved a shitload in fraud and mailing checks... and they could have spent it in the titty bars before... but this does suck.

Good to see they're catching this.  last week they stopped it from working in casinos.  Now, it will be strip clubs.

It's tricky though... how far down do you legislate?  Do you not allow the $ to come from an ATM 500 feet from a liquor store?  Will they next complain the cards get cash from ATMs located near political party HQ.  I agree welfare bums shouldn't be gambling and getting lap dances.. but if you're stupid enough to dole out the $ to a pot smoking, beer drinking, titty bar attending gambler in the first place, well, he's gonna get his $ on the way there anyway...

I still think people who should recieve welfare should have to pass drug test.  If I have to pass one to have the chance to earn my money, they should dam sure have to do the same to get money for nothing!!
