Data shows Toyota owners pressed gas instead of brakes
« on: July 14, 2010, 07:52:34 AM »
Toyota Data Recorders show that Americans were pressing the gas instead of the brakes during many of the so called "unintended accelleration" epidemic.
So instead of really saying that Anericans don't know how to drive, Toyota bit the bullet...

looks like "THE MAN" was busy at work again, not that they are in the car buisness

As for me i can see thru all that smoke and mirrors, i will never buy another American car again unless it was built in the 70's or 60's .... my paper weight pile of shit Ford Expedition which i paid like $40 grand for since day one always had problems, now take my Acura Integra Gsr that i have turbo charged, and red lined to 9,000+ rpms on countless occasions still runs like the day it was pulled out the factory in 1995

I have owned 2 Toyotas as well as 2 Chevys and 1 Dodge.  There is simply NO comparison to be made in the quality and dependability between them.  And I literally drove the shit out of the Toyotas.
I don't even have the vocabulary to describe what a piece of shit the Dodge was.

This whole fiasco is like the 60 Minutes hack job done to Audi and the 5000 back in the 80s....all supposedly the fault of "unintended acceleration" and crazy Audi 5000s accelerating out of control and killing poor helpless drivers.

The reality is the majority of American drivers s*ck and they cannot be accountable enough to admit they mashed the gas instead of the brake when they totalled their Camry.

Toyota builds some of the most solid cars on the road. They will weather this storm and continue to thrive while other sub-par auto companies go belly up.

Same deal with my 90's Benz versus my parents old 2000 Ford.

Makes you wonder, so american news went ape shit, when american competitors had cars that malfunctioned due to american drivers. When American auto's were going bankrupt.

I feel like there's something missing but i can't put my finger on it.  ???

Bmw and Mazda recently have recalls due to steering issues. Subaru has recalls, Lexus and Toyota recalls due to 270 odd cars having something that may happen involving the intake and debris getting into the engine, so they recalled 270k cars, based on something that may happen.
GM had recalls due to steering and airbags.

But the initial Toyota malstrom garnered more press and even people  living near me sold perfectly okay Priuses and Camrys to get Hyundai Sonatas....what the press should focus on is why can't we as Americans except blame for our shitty driving skills?
Also, we Americans have this thinking, "If it is not suppose to do it, make if so I can", that is in regards to the Consumer Reports saying that the full size Lexus Suv slides it's tail out in extreme manuvuers. No shit! But they want the SUV to perform normally when not driven normally.

American press are looking foe a scapegoat, and when it comes out, the fault was the driver, it only took the NHTSA to point that out.

I bought my Tacoma brand new in '03. After 113,000 miles, many stupid offroad runs, 2 accidents and no maintenance except tires, battery and oil ... (changed tranny and differantial fluids at 100K) it runs like a champ.
I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to...but ever since my GF bought a Benz I have been getting a boner for the new GLK.

I have full confidence in the Toyota brand still even after the b.s. with the stuck gas pedals and this report even goes further to prove that.

BTW I was not at fault in either of the accidents.

So you guys don't think there's no back room connection between the Big 3, the media, and a deliberate  smear campaign. I'm not one to point fingers, but it's makes too much sense. It was more hype than an actual recall. I mean every care company has them but never make the news like this recall.

My last car had 165k miles on it.

Run perfectly. Was a Ford.

Japanese cars are certainly one of the best and most reliable along with German cars.

Yeah, there is a possibility. After the big three melted down they needed someone else to fall. Also, the media is opportunistic, once they saw another big Corp, this time Toyota, who overtook GM as #1, and is a foreign car company, they smelled blood. But, they didn't ask pertenant questions like: why nobody puts the "runaway" cars in neutral? Only car mags ask that question.

People are idiots...

Mr. N, I don't know, I have to look it up...

My 2001 Toyota Tacoma has 176,000 miles on it...it is a little beast!  Still runs fine, and will go through more shit than most full size trucks inlcuding Chevy's and Dodges.  I love my little 4WD Toyota...when I buy another truck it will be another Toyota with no hesitation.

I'm sure we're supposed to now buy into the whole "American Made" nonsense, in the process feeling proud to support companies that did very little in way of developing good cards, and were more concerned over paying professional wages to factory line workers. I think we're supposed to feel sorry for those people too, because they're pushed as "real americans" even though they helped to create the economic crisis by borrowing beyond their means.
