Saudi court mulls verdict to cut defendant’s spine
He caused paralysis to another man during a fight and the victim is insisting that he should suffer the same injury

A court in Saudi Arabia is seeking medical advice on whether it is possible to cut the spinal cord of a man as a punishment after he was indicted of causing paralysis to another man during a fight, a local daily reported on Thursday.

The court in the northwestern province of Tabuk has sent letters to hospitals in the kingdom asking them whether the punishment to cripple the defendant by severing his spine is medically possible, the Arabic language daily Okaz said.

The unidentified defendant hit Abdul Aziz Al Mutairi, another Saudi, with a cleaver during a fight more than two years ago and the trial has been delayed because Mutairi is insisting that his attacker suffer the same injury.

“The General Court in Tabuk has sent several letters to hospitals in and outside the region asking doctors about the possibility of cutting the spinal cord of the defendant after he was indicted of causing paralysis to another man,” it said.

The paper quoted the 22-year-old Mutairi as saying the defendant had confessed in court to hitting him with the cleaver during their fight in Tabuk.

“King Khaled Hospital is of the opinion that it is possible to cut the spinal cord and cause paralysis medically through specialist centres,” he said.

According to the paper, the verdict is pending responses from hospitals to the court’s letters.

Tolerant and progressive culture! I'd love nothing more than for the USA to get off oil and tell these Wahabbi jerk-offs to fuck off.

CNN had an update on this today. The Saudi judge has ruled in favor of severing the man's spine and has sent out requests to hospitals looking for one to do it. One has said it can be done but that they would have to do it another facility while another one has rejected it.

This is Wahabbism. Get used to it as it's coming to your doorstep.

Not many. Remember when Jag claimed that Hitler and the Nazis were influenced by Christianity? Remember how fast she left that thread when it was made clear that Hitler despised Christinaity and was actually quite fond of Islam and the militaristic nature of it? Perfect example of how clueless these people are (and how stupid Jag truly is).

Not that it's surprising. Take away the religious aspect of Islam and what you have is Nazism, fascism and totalitarianism all rolled up into one ideology.

Never ceases to amaze me how educated people can fall into this crap.  Reminds me of the doctors in England.

it's essentially and eye for an eye.  Most religions call for that!

And if some dude paralyzed me, I'd damn sure want him to enjoy the same misery as me.

let's toss out religion completely guys...

if some guy drove drunk and hit you, and you ended up in a wheelchair, wouldn't it make PERFECT SENSE for them to go ahead and take his ability to walk, too?

Sheeeit, I think that's quite fair.  And not because any book told me so.

Yet you complained about waterboarding terrorists. Am I missing something here? Waterboarding > severing a man's spine?

if some dude waterboarded people, then yes, I'm all for him being waterboarded.

And I thought I have been abundantly clear that I'm fine with torturing bad guys - but I think we should ship them to a 3rd nation to do it.  Then, they should make em walk the plank on the boat ride back.

I think any US govt official officially endorsing torture puts our troops in danger - we all remember the retalation torture/killings omn our troops following abu ghirab and mashadani killings... the bad guys cited these acts as their motivation for their torturing our guys.

So yes - it has nothing to do with religion.  If a guy runs over my foot, I'd like to see his foot smashed too... it's the most fair thing.  You're telling me "6 months probation" is a fair punishment for me having a bum kicker the rest of my days?

Actually, you're right. I remember you agreeing with my "interrogate them on CIA prison ships and drop them overboard afterwards" method for dealing with terrorists.

Though I don't agree with your our torture puts them in harm's way theory. Have you seen what these guys do to anyone they capture? In my opinion, they're lucky we only waterboard them. It's far too lenient given that most people captured almost always wind up dead (after being severely tortured, of course). An eye for an eye would mean we start chopping heads off, videotaping it and then uploading it on the internet for all the fetish-seeking twats to watch.
