In a move unprecedented in the 75-year history of the Heisman Trophy, former University of Southern California star running back Reggie Bush forfeited college football’s most prestigious award on Tuesday.

Bush, now a standout for the New Orleans Saints, released his statement through the NFL team. Bush admitted mistakes during his tenure as a collegian for the first time....

They were gonna take it anyway.  I disagree with the whole thing.  The kind of shit he did happens all the time, and I gaurantee he is not the first Heisman trophy winner that took money or property for a job well done iin the college ranks.  He's just the first to get caught.  Total witchunt by the media.  Typical build em up to tear em down job.

I'm not a fan of the Saints or him, but play on the field is what the award is about not character or off the field issues.  If it's about who the person is then OJ should give his back with a written confession, and quite a few others should give theirs back for being flashi in the pan college players that could never make it in the CFL let alone the NFL

Barry Switzer wrote in Bootlegger's Boy about one time Oklahoma had beaten Nebraska to win the (then) Big 8 title.  It was later stripped, and the conference actually had a ceremony to hand the trophy to Nebraska coach Bob Devaney.  He is quoted as saying, "The hell with this.  We all know who won the damn game."

I think the actual story falls in line with the rumors that the agents/attorneys/whomever propped him up during college were NOT the ones who he went with when he signed his first deals out of college.  Those people were pissed off that he cut them out of the gravy train and chose to out him.
