The Twilight of Robert McNamara.
« on: January 21, 2011, 02:30:46 PM »
Robert McNamara, the Big Man, the Alpha Male of alpha males. He was president of Ford Motor Companies and U.S secretary of defense during the Vietnam War. During almost 15 years, he was the most powerful man on Earth, and made life-and-death decisions that affected millions of people daily. Because of him, 58,000 American boys died horrible deaths in Vietnam. Here in this interview, he admits the mistake that the Vietnam war was and looks for redemption and catharsis from the disasters he caused. He apologizes, but insists that the mistakes were inevitable given that they had no idea what they were dealing with in southern Asia. A brilliant man who graduated cum laude from Harvard and U.C Berkely, he was outwitted and defeated by peasants in southern Asia.

The peasants were Boston Brahmins in disguise.  It was foolish of r a Scoth-Irish to challenge them.

McNamara graduated cum laude in physics and math from Berkely. You got to be pretty damn smart to graduate cum laude in physics and math from a top of the top university like Berkely. And to think that some peasants outwitted him....

Did he really graduate in math and physics with a cum laude degree in Berkeley? The info I've found so far indicates that he has a B.A. in economy and minors in math and philosophy, afterwards he made his MBA at Harvard, but nowhere did he graduate cum laude, as far as i know. If he was really smart he would've known that the monroe doctrine was the way to go for america... every war america has been in had serious imperialistic undertones... those wars were not necessary, they were just profitable for top dogs in government and business. The vietnam war even started under false premises, look up golf of tonkin. But maybe he was smart for his own ass, not for the sake of the american people... then i must concede that he was really smart. I'm sure his friends made a coin or two from that long lasting and exacerbating war.

You are correct. He minored in math and philosophy. Nevertheless, minoring in these areas is just as hard as majoring except that the amount of information is smaller - the complexity of the information is the same. This is especially so in an elite university like U.C Berkely.

I am sorry. I don't care about that. And are you sure it's maths in the plural when you use as an abbreviation? Math seems plausible as an abbreviation for mathematics.
