WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan, Thursday, Sept. 30th, live on Versus
« on: September 29, 2010, 10:12:27 AM »
Main card:
Jose Aldo () vs. Manny Gamburyan ()
Donald Cerrone () vs. Jamie Varner ()
Miguel Torres () vs. Charlie Valencia ()
Chan Sung Jung () vs. George Roop ()
Leonard Garcia () vs. Mark Hominick ()

Preliminary card:
Pablo Garza () vs. Tiequan Zhang ()
Mike Brown () vs. Cole Province ()
Chris Horodecki () vs. Ed Ratcliff ()
Diego Nunes () vs. Tyler Toner ()
Antonio Banuelos () vs. Chad George ()
Demetrious Johnson () vs. Nick Pace ()

This is an awesome card.  We get to see Jose Aldo wreck Manny.  And the Jamie Varner/Donald Cerrone rematch.  Plus, Miguel Torres coming back after having his head split wide open.  And, of course, Leonard Garcia, who always comes to bang.

Pretty solid main card, plus the Pablo Garza  vs. Tiequan Zhang , should be interesting.  Zhang is a really hyped prospect out of China I believe.  I can't believe they stuck Mike Brown on the undercard, his fight should be a good one a well Cole is no slouch but Mike should handle him soundly.  Also Ed Ratcliff vs. Horodecki should be good as well.  I think you need to brush up on your copy and paste skills though Spin.

I didn't want to take the time to delete all those "()".  But, you're right, the undercard itself is pretty stacked.  And yes, there's a good article on Zhang on Bloody Elbow.  A lot is riding on this guy.  If he is successful, he could be the key to cracking that market...

Main card:
Jose Aldo vs. Manny Gamburyan
Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner - this one is a toss up.  If both show up with their heads on straight and injury free, it will be a war.
Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia
Chan Sung Jung vs. George Roop
Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick

Good card.  Glad to see Horodocki and Homonick do well.  Used to watch Homonick on the national kickboxing and MT circuits years ago.  He's come a long way.  He was a striking machine back then.

Did WEC drop the PPV telecasts?  I recall they were making a run at PPV in the U.S.  Guess it didn't turn out so well.

They were shooting for one or two PPV cards a year, I think the Faber/Aldo PPV did like 150,000 or 200,000.  Not all that great, but enough not to discourage their foray into PPV's.
