Obviously you never picked up a magazine from back then because that's all Shawn did was talk shit , in fact he said after Dorian tore his bicep that he was done and he had a couple of years left in him for guest posing , Shawn mentioned at the athletes meeting that year that he hoped his physique was being judged and not his comments

and even entertaining he didn't say anything out of ' fear ' that doesn't change anything , the fact is he was lucky to beat Kevin Levrone in 94 and only did so by 1 point , he was in fact trailing Kevin after the prejudging so either way you're sucked

Shawn wasn't good enough to beat Dorian , Haney or Ronnie , he claimed Ronnie didn't deserve the Olympia in 98 , Shawn says a lot of things a lot which fly in the face of reality , Shawn couldn't accept the fact he simply wasn't good enough.

He was good enough to win the 94 O according to Joe Weider and a lot of other people.  ;)

Shawn right after the 1994 Mr Olympia

Flex magazine January 1995 Shawn Ray

Dorian was a bigger version of what he's been. I'm not a fan in the sense that his physique is something I aspire to attain. Dorian is in his own class and in his own little world. For that reason, there's nobody they can compare like-to-like with Dorian. They can only bring forward a different package.

( 1994 Mr Olympia ) Tonight I feel that I got what I deserved. With a beaming smile , Shawn concluded: " This is the first time in three years I haven't ' retired ' the night of the show and got drunk. "

Truth is he was lucky to beat Kevin for second place and only did so by a single point.

Lucky to beat Kevin?

It had nothing to do with luck, he was just the better bb that night.

It isn't luck considering he beat Kevin the year before as well and two years later.

i think there is a point where GH allows you to take your genetics to the limit and makes you look god-like. thats what we saw with guys like ray, wheeler, etc in the 90's. i think once you hit that apex, the body cannot hold that amount of muscle for whatever reason and you lose sharpness and detail, i dont necessarily think it is all insulin's fault. i think thats we are seeing these days. maybe over saturation due to availability causing the body to look like it has less quality muscle to it? i dunno. but for some reason the guys in the 90's had the size and the look of physiques that were crisp and held good muscle, even at the nats level when they got their pro cards.

maybe disgusted would have a better idea as to why.

MB phrased it best in an earlier post:

The human body is the same as it's always been, today's guys can't come in 30 lbs heavier than the guys in the '90s and expect it to be in all the right places, half of it gets carried in the gut.

When you trail after the prejudging, you're lucky to place ahead of that person.  It's not the norm.

not according to Shawn at the contest  ;) Joe Weider doesn't judge contests and neither do a lot of other people

Judges judge contests and they are only right when YOU agree they are , but when the winner's physique isn't pretty enough for you he should lose  ::)

It was luck , 1994 was a close contest FOR SECOND PLACE neither were in Dorian's league

Kevin was beating Shawn after the prejudging and if you know anything about contests that's the meat & potatoes rarely are placings improved upon in the evening show , Shawn only ' beat ' Kevin by a single point so yes he was lucky Kevin was a tad off in prejudging because if Kevin was spot-on like 95 he would have been left for dead , like he was in 92 and the only reason Shawn beat him in 93 was of Kevin's pec-tear . Shawn isn't in Kevin's league and he sure as fuck wasn't good enough to beat Dorian even at one of his worse showings

I know that man, I was just pointing out different opinions on the subject.

I've already admitted Dorian deserved his win, but I think Shawn had the better physique.

Of course I not always agree with a contest result, its called having an opinion of my own.

So close placing = luck?

Shawn only beat Kevin in 93 due to Kevin's pec tear and in 94 due to Kevin being slighty off. What about 96? What is the excuse for this one?

I agree that Kevin at his best (like in 95) beats Shawn's best without a doubt, but 94 was 94 and Shawn beat him.......I guess we can call it luck.

So according to this logic of Shawn being lucky Kevin was off, we can say that:

Dorian was lucky to win the 92 Olympia since Lee Haney retired right?

Or Dorian was lucky Flex had that accident in 94, if not he wouldn't have won the Olympia right?

Behind after the prejudging and winning by a single point = luck

Kevin always tip between big/soft hard/small he always had a hard time finding the balance and when he did Shawn wasn't in his league and when he didn't he could be beaten , the irony is Kevin was slightly off even in the prejudging and still beat Shawn in it and this is Shawn at his best !

Lucky? NO however I do thing if Haney showed up the way he did in 92 as he did in 91 and Dorian appeared the same Haney would have taken him again , 1993 Dorian would beat any version of Haney

Dorian was lucky Flex had the accident because he is the only legitimate guy who could beat him when he was off , but Dorian not at his best is still eons better than Shawn
