Good shit. I always wondered, if the Iranians are so good at Olympic lifts, why are they not big in powerlifting, bench press? One would think if they are "world's strongest men" that they would dominate push/pull lifts in powerlifting, etc.
Or is that they only train for O lifting?

It's lack of caring for the other sport. If they stick with and are good at O-lifting, they'll be taken care of and respected in their home countries. If they throw their efforts into Powerlifting, they're just another strong guy in a tiny sport.

Also, at a certain point, they are all worried about injury, so they're slower at pursuing maximal strength, forsaking it for more form work. Also there is some detraining that comes with training for both sports, so powerlifting training has a small detrimental effect on O Lifting, and vice-versa at the very high levels in terms of body positioning, flexability, etc....

My joints hurt just looking at that video.  225 on the incline for 8 or 9 reps is the most my old body can take these days.

Olympic lifting and powerlifting are TOTALLY different sports.

Olympic lifting is about technique, speed, agility, powerlifting is static, boring strength.

i understand that, I've always wondered why you never see them with Bench, squat, dead lift records. Or World's strongest man contests. One would think that a nation known for Olympic lifters would produce men capable doing other lifts...

Yesterday was a good day for us to say the least !! We all were on BEAST mode lol.....it might've been because Flex Wheeler was there ?? we wanted to remind him what was up lol j/k Flex, flex was the one in the orange shirt that ran over after Stan hit the 495 for 5 incline. Any of you guys going to the Arnold stop by and say hi, we'll be at the Animal Cage.
