How much do wrestlers lie about their weight and height?
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:02:34 AM »
We all know bodybuilders all lie about their height.

We also know that to make it more of a spectacle wrestlers do the same. In general how many inches do they add and how many lbs.

Was hulk really 300+ lbs at his peak?

Lol a general rule is 3 inchs plus what they'd claim in person. If I'm 6 3 claim 6 4 I'm 6 7 in the wwf. I.e. Hulk was 6 5 claimed 6 9. The rock is 6 2 claimed 6 5 etc.

Obviously they exaggerate but Hulk at his peak was huge and tall and on a lot of steroids, I bet he wasn't too far from 300 lbs.

Kevin Nash said on TV years ago he is billed as 6'10" but is actually 6'8" and they generally add 30 to 40 lbs but it depends on the wrestler.
Big show for example they can get away with a huge exaggeration

Height - 1 to 4" can typically be added, some big stars also wear shoe lifts - Kane wears a 2" shoe lift.

Weight as said can be anything from 10-30+lbs.

Sheamus is a good person I use to gauge others against as I have seen him in person up close and he is huge.  His height is only exaggerated by 1inch if any and he is genuinely big fella.

back in the late 70's, and early 80's, he was huge (big bloated face)
he was 330lbs back then.
This issue is addressed in his autobiography.

They were billed at 6-8 and 7-5 at Wrestlemania III.  See 1:50:

Andre was taller by at least a couple inches but definitely not nine.

interesting bit from wikipedia.

They decided to change his name to "André the Giant" and increase his billed height to 7 ft 4 in (2.24 m) with a weight that ranged from 309 to 565 pounds (140 to 256 kg). His actual height is contested, and there has been much speculation and debate over the issue. Jim Duggan and Bobby Heenan maintain that his kayfabe height of 7'4" was correct. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer claims André was measured at 6 ft 9.75 in (2.1 m) in 1974 by a French athletic commission; Meltzer also estimated André at 6 ft 11.5 in (2.1 m). Wrestling journalist Mike Mooneyham claims André was 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m) at his peak. Although it is often debated, he clearly was taller and bigger than any of his opponents. There are no actual documentation on his measured height, as it is often assumed or estimated.

Hogan was really tall, he towered over most of the other wrestlers.  I wouldn't take Andre being near Hogan's height to mean that Andre wasn't nearly seven feet.

Andre's facial features were like that of a huge giant you see in Guinnes book of records etc. Those with acromegaly and generally well over 7'

If he really was only around 6'9 then to have that degree of acromegaly is very unusual indeed. Interesting man.

the biography channel said his peak was 7'2" but died at 6'9" from a crippling disorder to do with giantism

Ah I guess curvature of the spin etc.

Some guy in England is like 7'7 3/4" and does not have giantism. He is in proportion etc just a huge man. Can't remember his name.

Yao Ming is like this too.  He is "only" 7'6" though  :)

Andre had a growth hormone problem so in 74 he may have been under seven ft but continue to grow later in life because of his condition. I remember Big Show was billed at over 7 but a friend who knew show said he was a legit 6'10

The Hulkster bodyslammed the 12 and a half foot tall, 4 ton Andre in front of 789,261 people at the Pantheon..Andre died a week later while Hogan broke 12 ribs, popped blood vessels, and developed lupus. The slam did help end the Cold War though, brother!
