Did you fail Reading Comprehension?  He said Central Valley.  Once you leave Silicon Valley headed south one of the paths you can take is through the Central Valley.  ::)

I think we're all a bit fooked up on directions and just where Silicon Valley is located.

Silicon Valley is located down by San Jose and approximately an hour south of San Francisco - unless they moved it since my most recent visit. It used to be nothing but cows and cherry trees.

And the Central Valley is another hour's drive due east from the San Jose area - maybe even an hour and a half.

And then once you reach Highway 99 which runs north and south from Northern Cal to Southern Cal through that Central Valley, you'd have approximately another hour to reach the High Sierra which is the only mountain range in California that has snow all winter long as far as I am aware.

But you do get occasional snowfalls on the Grapevine (Highway 5) which is the main entry-way into the Los Angeles basin from the northern and central parts of the state.

You definitely cannot beat California for beautiful scenery though.

Yosemite National Park in particular.

Great to see you all like California! I can honestly say that I've seen about 80% of every square foot of it via travel by car or plane or helicopter or by a actually stepping on it (and its critters) via the PCT which weaves a trail all the way from Canada to Mexico over the Sierra mountain peaks.

And that mountain range is only a few hours away from some of the world's best beaches and surfing spots (excluding Hawaii and other South Pacific Isles).

We've actually surfed at Malibu one morning and skied at Mammouth that same afternoon and got a sun-tan in both locations....... followed by a gourmet dinner  with the Hollywood elite. (Beat that Dr Chimps!).

You  can't beat California if you want to live life at it's finest.

But you got to be able to afford it.

"And that mountain range is only a few hours away from some of the world's best beaches and surfing spots (excluding Hawaii and other South Pacific Isles)."

And excluding the Caribbean, the Greek islands, Australia (which may qualify as "other South Pacific Isles), and a host of other places.
The truth is Californian beaches photograph beautifully but are crap to swim in and pretty crap to surf. But other than that, I agree with you.
California is the best state in the States to live in, bar none. I have, and I will again.
The rest only hate because they can't or won't live there. Texas and it's low taxes and business friendly atmosphere? Don't make me laugh. You can only dress up a turd so much. (All apologies to native Texans)
