Ninety percent of Republicans want Tea Party to play a role
By: CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Washington (CNN) - As the GOP on Capitol Hill continues the process of peacefully incorporating newly-elected Tea Party members into its fold, a new poll shows close to 90 percent of Republicans says its important the Tea Party's ideas are given significant weight within the party going forward.

According to the new survey from Gallup, 53 percent of Republicans say it's very important and another 35 say it's somewhat important their party embrace Tea Party principles. That compares to 7 percent of Republicans who say it's not too important the grassroots movement is given respect on Capitol Hill and 2 percent who flat out believe it's not important at all.

Expanded to all adults, the survey reports nearly seventy percent wan the Tea Party to play a key role within the GOP.

This comes nearly a week after one of the initial conflicts between the Republican Party and Tea members when two Republicans delivered a response to President Obama's State of the Union address.
One, Rep. Paul Ryan, did s on behalf of the GOP and the other, Rep. Michele Bachmann, followed suit on behalf of the Tea Party movement. The visual of two Republicans delivering separate responses to the president was a stark sign to some that the Tea Party movement has yet to fully embrace the GOP as their home.

Overall, Republicans are split on their approval of the movement, with 47 percent giving it a favorable and 42 percent saying they do not like it. Meanwhile, 30 percent of all Americans identify themselves as a supporter of the Tea Party movement.

The survey included telephone interviews with 1,032 adults between January 14-16 and carries a sampling error of 4 percentage points. In the questions broken down by party, the sampling error is 5 percent.

Bachmann vs. Romney vs. Obama in 2012...

I hope nobody on this board is delusional to predict anything but an Obama win in a 3-way matchup...

That ain't happening. The reason the Tea Party won BIG in the midterms is that they were smart NOT to split the Republican ticket. All the Tea Party folks in Washington now ran on the GOP ticket. It was the RINOs, who tried running third party, after they lost in the GOP primaries.
