Wrong.  THey help carve definition between the different quad muscles.
well, that is true. but you gotta have a big piece of granite before you can start thinking about carving a statue  ;)

Dizzle, try doing the Trevor Smith fella workout on the leg extension ;)

I guarentee you will love it and your quads will get drastically better (this is specially tru for fellas with long legs )
i can do the close to the full stack with one leg on just about any leg extension machine for sets of 10. its an ok exercise but ill get into specifics why i dont like it  down below

Leg extensions are a good exercise and will add good size.

Tbombz train 3x2 won't build any muscle.
training 3X2 might not add a whole bunch of size from one workout. but youll never add a whole bunch of size from one workout. training super hevay, low reps, low volume will boost strength considerable, so my next workout i can use that heavy ass weight again and get a cfew more reps.  if i add in more sets i will be breaking down my muscle, not stimulating growth. stimulate, dont annihilate! -lee haney (but he could have benefited from training heavy and focusing on size instead of trying to pump his muscles with lighter weights)

guys... big muscle=strong muscle. and that means you can not have a big muscle unless it is first a strong muscle. you want size? you gotta get strong first.  focus on lifting super heavy weights with good form, and dont train so much that your sore for days and dont gain strength. . just a few very heavy sets shy of failure. and hit it again in a couple days. once you are lifting 400-500 lbs on every major exercise, then focus on adding in reps, but only go as fast as your body will let you, dont try to force growth by destroying the muscle, going to failure, drop sets, etc. all this does is cause excess muscle damage and destroy your ability to make significant growth after your workout.

That was a great post tbombz, and you are completely correct with what you said. Low volume and heavy ass weight is the way to go, and focus that low volume and heavy ass weight upon the major compound moves (benches, rows/chins/pulldowns, and squats/leg presses). Yeah, yeah, I know that in my own particular case that I'll never have huge muscles, since I'm a lifetime natural, but in a naturals case this sort of training will cause one to have granite-like muscles once low bodyfat is achieved 8)

You wanto to get bigger? Just add more test.

Someone who tries to lift heavy weight but maintain low bodyfat while being drug free will allways look small, with a few exceptions.

And the exceptions generally prove the rule.  ;)

someone who tries to lift naturally and remain lean will always look small, no exceptions. even when theyre fat.

your right about adding more steroids, but that only works to a point, and even then you still need to focus on getting stronger in order to get bigger. very few guys can get bigtger on juice without getting sronger. and even those guyw ould be better off focusing on getting stronger, theyd progress faster.

Yes you are (and you have heard it all your life)

http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance_repair/the_truth_about_leg_extensions

Leg Extension Risks:

    1. Increased patellofemoral joint reaction force, knee movement, and joint stress in the most commonly used range of motion.

    2. Reduced hamstrings activity.

    3. Reduced VMO activity and late onset of firing.

    4. Non-existent hip adductor and abductor contribution.

    5. Increased rectus femoris firing.

    6. Constant ACL tension.

    7. Higher patellar ligament, quadriceps tendon, and patellofemoral and tibiofemoral forces with the most commonly utilized loading parameters.

    8. Increased lateral patellar deviation.

    9. Insufficient involvement of surrounding joints to ensure optimal functioning.

    10. Poor training economy (no carryover to closed-chain performance from open-chain exercises).

Leg Extension Benefits:

    1. Will give you a good pump, but not even close to the benefits you'll get from squatting and single-leg movements.

    2. Uh, wait, there's really only one benefit — and it's pretty weak.

I used to talk bad about the leg ext too, but used in moderation, I think it makes good contribution to your leg development. It's no substitute for squats, but it has its place. If all you do is squat, you won't be strong in this movement as you could be, and can probably put 50 or so lbs on it in a few weeks time. Why would that be a bad thing? Then so is a barbell curl or reverse curl as they focus on single joint movements too.
