PARIS (AFP) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared Thursday that multiculturalism had failed, joining a growing number of world leaders or ex-leaders who have condemned it.

"My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure," he said in a television interview when asked about the policy which advocates that host societies welcome and foster distinct cultural and religious immigrant groups.

Actually Merkel (Germany) was the first to admit it, then Cameron (and Straw made similar comments prior to that).
Sarkozy actually had a tougher stance against the "french youths" and he paid dearly with all the riots.

Funny how the same politicians that actively and ruthlessly enforced this "multiculturalism" (that requires the local populations to adjust rather than the immigrants) now try to change direction, probably because they see the coming tide they've created.

As long as the government is willing to do what is necessary and they have the support of its citizens.
