I personally don`t think "Democratization" of the middle east is a good thing for the interests of the United States as a whole.   At this point we don`t need any more competition from oil rich countries than we already have now as Democracy will only seek to improve their economic standing (not ours).  Furthermore, we don`t need any more competition from organized, cheap labor from other countries, and we don`t need "extra" people with the ability to get visas to come here to work in our employment sector.  We also should not treat the Middle East as equals just because they claim they are a democracy when they still have a largely religious population of morons.

I do know their idea of "democracy" is different than ours, but I`d rather have the United States be "the only game in town".  Keeping the dictators in power may be a better move for the United States.

Your thoughts?

Team Dictator or Team Democracy for the Middle East?

I`d rather have them as weak as they can be on the world stage.

Outside of Israel, there is no such thing as democracy in the Middle East. This hasn't changed in the 1400 years Islam has been around and I doubt it will change anytime soon. One despot will be replaced by another.

I'd love for them to prove me wrong but nothing indicates they will.

every time there's an overthrow, you have oil prices spike and the cost of "democracy" is just new nutbags taking over.

We have the lowest gas prices when there's 20 Saddams over there, ruling with an iron fist.

We have the highest gas prices when multiple countries have riots.  And, as egypt shows us, the new people that get in will immediately give the USA the middle finger and let Iran smuggle weapons to hez, etc.

So for US interests, this "democracy" is a very bad thing - cause the majority of them hate us.  Far better to have one dictator - with a shitload to lose - who will "play ball" with the USA when it comes to oil and keeps their dipshits in line for the most part.

Aren't you one of those guys who says it isn't our job to play world police and bringer of democracy? If so, then I don't see the problem in us cozying up with whoever is in charge.

Especially when the next best option is even worse than the current (Hi, Muslim Brotherhood).

I believer the USA should only get involved when our own interests are at stake/in danger.

Yes, when hitler is about to take over england and Russia, you damn sure get involved... or else you're fighting English soldiers ic NYC and japanese/russian soldiers in Oregon.

And in this case, we should be giving assistance to teh pricks who will give us the lowest oil prices, period.  You think the nutjobs that take over will just give us the same sweetheart deals we worked decades to achieve?

Christ, I may actually agree with something TA said. Some people just can't handle democracy...its almost down to the DNA level. Some peoples need a strongman..Russia etc comes to mind. The arabs are by and large friggen crazy. They can't handle democracy. Thats not to say that whoever comes into power has to crush his people...but everybody needs to know who's boss.
