California Seeing No Radiation Level Increase
« on: March 18, 2011, 05:45:43 PM »
Despite all of the fear mongering nothing has become of the supposed radiation arriving on the shores of america. I heard Joyce Rilley of the internet talk THe Powerhour say Alex Jones aping out about radiation already reaching California with a greater amount arriving on Saturday. Now California officials are saying NOTHING has arrived.

California seeing no radiation level increase

By Fredrik Dahl and Nichola Groom – Fri Mar 18, 3:37 pm ET

VIENNA/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – California air quality officials said on Friday they saw no elevated radiation levels on the U.S. West Coast from Japan's nuclear power plant disaster.

"At this point we're unable to verify if there are any elevated levels," said Ralph Borrmann, a spokesman for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District in San Francisco. "We're not seeing it on our live data in California."

Radiation levels have not shown an increase at any of the monitoring stations up and down the West Coast, he added.
Earlier on Friday, diplomatic sources in Vienna said data showed tiny amounts of radioactive particles that were believed to have come from Japan's stricken Fukushima plant.

The level of radiation was far too low to cause any harm to humans, they said. One diplomat, citing information from a network of international monitoring stations, described the material as "ever so slight," consisting of only a few particles.

"They are irrelevant," the diplomat added.

Another diplomatic source also said the level was very low.

The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization, a Vienna-based independent body for monitoring possible breaches of the test ban, has more than 60 stations around the world, including one in Sacramento in California.

They can pick up very small amounts of radioactive particles such as iodine isotopes.

"Even a single radioactive atom can cause them to measure something and this is more or less what we have seen in the Sacramento station," said the first diplomat, who declined to be identified.

He said the particles were believed to originate from the Fukushima plant, which has leaked radioactivity since being damaged by last week's massive earthquake and tsunami.

The CTBTO provides data to its member states, but does not make the details public.
On Thursday, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said radioactivity would disperse over the long distance and it did not expect any harmful amounts to reach the country.

Radiation from the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 spread around the globe and reached the west coast of the United States in 10 days, its levels measurable but minuscule.

UPDATE:

Well it is Saturday and there is absolutely no evidence of any radiation encroaching on California. All of the officials are still saying nothing measurable has happened. Funny though..It would seem if there was any concern of radiation really traveling across the Pacific, it would have reached Hawaii days ago and caused some raise in their radiation levels, but as you all see NOTHING has been said of such. Looking at YAHOO'S home page there is absolutely NO NEWS whatsoever about the supposed disastrous radiation cloud "ARRIVING" in america. Like I said FEARMONGERING at its best.

Radioactive Plume Heading Toward California Contains No Threat, Experts Say

Earlier this week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency deployed extra radiation detectors throughout the country that will send real time data via satellite to EPA officials, who will make the data available to the public online.

U.S. experts are keeping an eye on radioactive particles traveling from Japan to California, but they insist there's no public health threat coming from a plume that is moving toward the state.

“A diplomat who has access to radiation tracking by the U.N.'s Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization told The Associated Press in Vienna that initial readings show tiny amounts of radiation have reached California. But it's not dangerous in any way — ‘about a billion times beneath levels that would be health threatening,’ the diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the organization does not make its findings public,” the Associated Press reports.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency deployed extra radiation detectors throughout the country that will send real time data via satellite to EPA officials, who will make the data available to the public online.

Austria’s Federal Ministry for Science and Research has released a map showing radioactive material from the nuclear disaster in Japan as it heads across the Pacific Ocean.

In the event the situation escalates, the California Emergency Management Agency reports that it will coordinate emergency response efforts with state public health officials and local officials.

On Thursday, President Obama said "harmful levels" of radiation from the damaged Japanese nuclear plant are not expected to reach the U.S.

The Air Quality Monitoring District website www.aqmd.gov  is posting daily radiation monitoring in Southern California, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission website www.nrc.gov has national updates.

The California Department of Public Health, which set up a hotline for concerned residents -- 916-341-3947 -- also has its own network of eight monitors sampling the air, water, and soil for harmful substances, including radiation, said agency spokesman Ron Owens.

FEARMONGERING FAILURE...

Sacramento Monitors Detect Small Amount Of Radiation
1:39 p.m. ET Friday (2:39 a.m. Saturday in Tokyo)
3-18-11

Monitors in Sacramento, California, have detected a small amount of radioactive material from the earthquake-struck nuclear power plant in Japan, an official with the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization said. The exact amounts were not available, but were far less than what would be considered harmful to human health, the official said.

also lol, Samson is absolutely willing to state that everything else is a coverup on a constant basis.  He never has any faith that the government tells us the truth.  But now they're spot on and wouldn't lie....  I think he's just trolling as usual.  Nobody here really did any fearmongering on this anyway so no clue why he's even bringing up the fearmonger issue.  I've been highly concerned as a few others have but I think concern/worry is warranted considering the situtation.  Watching closely is not fearmongering.  Fearmongering is making shit up that isn't true in an effort to scare the shit out of people, like Samson does all the time lol....

I agree, watching closely is just being safe.  No such fear mongering.  Sammy is so off base. Next thing you know she will tell us she was just saying this "could" be fear mongering.  ;D

I am real worried about how this will affect nuclear power growth here in the US.
