what would you do?
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:04:13 AM »
I drive a nice fairly new sedan with ground effects (shit that helps your car stay stuck to the ground at high speeds by reducing the amount of air that gets below it - basically panels on your car that hang really close to the ground).  today i pulled into a strange driveway to turn around on a residential street and the damn driveway was weirdly raised and wound up scratching the bottom of the air-dam.  It also wound up slightly warping the panel.  To see the scratches and warping you have to get down on your knees and look under the car.  Maybe the warping is visible from the side if you're standing far enough to see stuff under the car and looking for it. (what if I parked on a rise? people could see it then) replacing the panel will probably cost at least a grand.  Once a valet nicked my wheel (a scratch about 1.5 cms long) and it cost me $120 to get the nick out.

Would you get it fixed?

fuck it, not doing it.  I already piss away a fortune on wine, women and song .... need to grow up. Little bit OCD about some things though.

Will it affect safety/performance?

I'm OCD as well but for some reason I don't get too excited about scratches/dings etc on my car.  I remember my first new car, shortly after I got it I put a deep scratch on loading an exercise bike into it.  A little black touch up paint and "viola!"

Another car I backed into the garage door when it was still down. ::)  Put a bit of a dent in the back but it didn't bother me...maybe because I was so glad the door still worked.

Might affect performance if I was competing in NASCAR... which I sometimes like to pretend I am.  ;D  Not a safety issue.  More of an OCD/cosmetic issue.

LOL ground effects are primarily for looks my man if youre going for traction and more control there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that require much less maintenance.

its gonna happen I had a lowered prelude with a wings west lip kit so you can imagine how much room I had. I never got rims b/c i didnt want to have to deal with dinging them or scratching them and then having to either live with it or have them repaired.

my old baby... :'( I really miss her when Im driving on the freeway in traffic

Yup, cosmetic/OCD issue, nothing else.  I didn't put any rims on, just have OEM low profile tires and wheels.  the entire wheel has the same finish, so I got it fixed. Again, purely OCD. I see other cars like mine with the same wheels all scratched up around the edges.
