During GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain’s campaign announcement on Saturday, the former pizza executive took a moment to lecture the country on its need to “reread the Constitution”:

CAIN: We don’t need to rewrite the Constitution of the United States of America, we need to reread the Constitution and enforce the Constitution. … And I know that there are some people that are not going to do that, so for the benefit of those who are not going to read it because they don’t want us to go by the Constitution, there’s a little section in there that talks about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

You know, those ideals that we live by, we believe in, your parents believed in, they instilled in you. When you get to the part about “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” don’t stop there, keep reading. Cause that’s when it says “when any form of government becomes destructive of those ideals, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it.” We’ve got some altering and some abolishing to do!

Watch it:

Cain really should have taken his own advice, however, before he decided to lecture the entire country about the Constitution. The phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” does not appear anywhere in the Constitution’s text. Nor does the Constitution include a phrase about the right of the people to alter or abolish a government that is destructive of their ideals. Both of those phrases appear in the Declaration of Independence, which, in case Mr. Cain is not aware, is actually an entirely different document than the Constitution — written over ten years earlier.

Sadly, Cain’s Bachmannesque ignorance of the nation’s founding documents makes him well-suited to compete in a GOP presidential primary. Republicans invented an utterly meritless constitutional objection to the Affordable Care Act, they’ve called everything from Social Security to Medicare to child labor laws unconstitutional, and they’ve even pretended that the Constitution allows them to strip Americans of their citizenship. So Cain needs to look no further than his own party if he wants to find people who are more interested in rewriting the Constitution than in actually reading it. (HT: David Bernstein

1) You were told to source your shit.

2) This is all you've got? Cain's looking better and better if this all you've got to go on.

3) You = racist.

"I've spent my lifetime in the Navy and turning around struggling businesses.  There will be times when I confuse certain parts of things I don't have regular recent experience with, as I did here.

So while I am focusing my presidential energies primarily upon our nation's economic woes, I will appoint the very best constitutional scholars to ensure our nation's leadership follows the Constitutional ideals set forth by our founding fathers."

---What Cain SHOULD say instead of just "I misspoke".  It'll give him a pass on little mistakes and make him appear honest and sincere.

cain is 2 days in, and thye've come at him with 3 negative stories already.

He can't be giving them ammo on things like this.  When you speak AS PRESIDENT, everything you say takes on historical precedence.  So you can't flippantly toss out things like Cain did here.  You research everything you say - you speak as representative of this nation when you speak, and this process is the dress rehearsal for that.  Palin AIN'T the person for the job, specifically because she says dumbass things.

Cain's gotta take a crash course on constitutional law, energy, foreign policy, and a shitload of other issues so he doesn't go the way of Fred Thompson - who was marginalized by the left AND FOX after missing some easy softball Qs early on from the media.   Gotta be smarter than that.

it stopped thompson from getting elected.  So yes, cain needs to stay on the economic message, where he's an expert, and avoid these Q & A sessions until he can spend a weekend reading WIKI on every major issue.  Not knowing "right of return" was a big freakin' deal... I love cain and would love to put a Cain sticker on my car when he wins the nomination - but he's gotta stop giving the media (and other repubs in the debates!) this kind of ammo!

I can think of a few things that make him a hypocrite regarding the statement that arent mentioned in the above article but the Cain knob gobblers would just give it a free pass.

The only time I think he is being truly honest is with some comments he made on Afghanistan, such as he didn't know too much about it to make a real decision. He should just stick to that type pf answer for everything, he'd probably come out looking a lot more genuine.

Republican Presidential Candidate Herman Cain admitted Monday that he had been stumped by a question about the Palestinian “right of return” the prior day.

“Where do you stand on the right of return?” Fox News’ Chris Wallace had asked Cain Sunday.

“The right of return? The right of return?” a confused Cain responded.

“A lot of people think you didn’t understand the right of return,” Fox News’ Sean Hannity noted during an interview with Cain Monday.

“They are exactly right, Sean,” Cain replied. “Chris caught me off guard. I didn’t understand the right of return.”

Yeah, I think you're right.  A few misstatements will pass, but I think if they keep up he'll end up on the same path as Palin.  Time to just slow down.
