As long as they stay together, they are good to go.

What about machines?

Weight is weight, right?

What about machines? Are you saying that 100lbs on the bar is the same as 100lbs on a machine that has multiple pulleys and cable? Are you saying that if I did a bench press on a machine that I would recruit the same motor units as I were to bench on say a chest press machine? Are you saying 405 on regular free weight bench press is the same as 405 on a smith machine ? If thats what you're saying can you come up with some evidence or case study to prove otherwise?

Joseph, I was replying to Vince.

Now, please answer my question that I asked numerous times in this thread.

Stfu troll. Who said it was being used? You? Do you even train? Seriously? And why did you change your name......again?

Joe, pleas tell us...

Are these vintage weights one more tool you use to make your gym and techniques appear complicated and different. Especially to the kids?

Am I right?

Is this why you refuse to answer me?

Sure sounds cool though.

Reality is they are heavy, clumsy, and awkward.

There is a reason they are no longer made that way, but hey, it helps Joe sell his services.

depends on the machine but the thing is that you have train every bodypart with a barbell and dumbbell set very inexpensively where-as a Basile type machine would cost thousands of dollars, take up space, and train only one bodypart....if hardly at all

Free weights reign supreme, they've built athletes for centuries, and there's no complicated shit to deal with.  You pick it up and you curl it, push it, or pull it

Machines are OK, but you spend your entire workout sitting on your ass. (Quote by Iron Mike BonDurant).
In older age I guess Ill get a bowflex, cause at 46 and 33 years of lifting, I'm staring to fall apart...

Lift iron until you cant move, then get into correction exercises...

I like vintage, they probably won't use them for liability purposes. You seem to not understand even by trolling me with this line of questioning that I get better results out my little gym that 99.5% of the people who go to 100 sq ft "box" gyms. It's not the equipment, it's knowing how to use the equipment. Lets keep this going.

I agree with your thoughts on box gyms.

Weight may be weight, but it's the leverage required to lift/move any given weight. Possible  that this is the difference between a exercise "machine" and the common BB/DB. Also lifting a weight through air, as dips & chins, set in motion another leverage example.

When lifting old style globe weights, I found  the looser a grip the better the bar could be handled. Too tight a grip  puts undo stress on the wrist/forearms/elbows. Just my view, that's all.
