Florida High School Principal Lied About Hypnotizing Students Who Later Died
By ELLEN TUMPOSKY

June 30, 2011
A Florida high school principal lied about having hypnotized a student who committed suicide and another who died in a car crash, a school district investigation has revealed.

George Kenney, 51, former principal of North Port High School in Sarasota, admitted to hypnotizing as many as 75 people -- students, parents and staff -- at the school and to defying orders to only use hypnosis in psychology class and with parental permission.

His use of the practice, widely known at the school, came under scrutiny after Kenney acknowledged he had hypnotized Wesley McKinley , 16, the day before the teenager killed himself in April.

But he had denied using the technique on Brittany Palumbo, 16, who killed herself May 4, or Marcus Freeman, 16, a star quarterback on the high school team, who died in a car crash March 15.

"Dr. Kenney admitted that he lied … and he admitted that he did have sessions with both of the other deceased students," according to the report by Steele Investigations Agency, released this week.

In his interview with the investigators, Kenney, a popular principal at the school since 2001, said he felt terrible about "putting his school and his students through something that they didn't need or deserve to have to endure on top of all the tragedy they already have experienced" and started to cry, the report says.

Kenney is on leave and is assigned to an administrative job while a police investigation proceeds. Scott Ferguson, a spokesman for Sarasota schools, said the district would not be commenting on the internal investigation while the police probe is ongoing.

Mark Zimmerman, who is Kenney's lawyer, said no one has alleged that there is a link between the hypnosis of the three students and their deaths. "Dr. Kenney had no indications that these were students who would take their own lives," he said in reference to Wesley McKinley and Brittany Palumbo.

He had used hypnosis to help the two students with text anxiety, Zimmerman said, and had an individual session with Brittany, with a parent present. "It is a coincidence that of the many students he was working with, two had other things going on in their lives."

Kenney helped Freeman with stress and anxiety about sports performance, Zimmerman said.

Kenney, who learned hypnosis at the Omni Hypnosis Training Center in DeLand, Fla., had made podcasts on reducing test anxiety and improving sports performance through hypnosis. He told investigators that his passion for helping students overcame his good judgment.

"He was only trying to help students be more successful and overcome some of the barriers," the report states. In his view, "he may have pushed the envelope, 'but I don't think I've stepped over the line.'"

Kenney faces possible criminal charges under a rarely used Florida law that bars "therapeutic hypnosis" unless it is monitored by a medical professional.

But attorney Zimmerman said the law was "vague" and added, "Hypnosis isn't illegal. What it is is controversial."

Can you give me the short version of that?? I don't read so well  ;)
Just fucking with ya  :D

NO - I have been to hypnosis shows before & seen the dumb ass shit people do, it reminds me of a 'general anesthetic' 100% help-less.
I have no desire to hand over my consciousness to some guy I met when he walked on stage.

Although, I do find One thing interesting about Hypnosis, & that is the fact that some people are just not susceptible to it.
Now that is interesting if you have a desire to understand, people, consciousness, mind control, strength of character, etc.

I do have some other interesting (well I think they are) observations on the subject, but I will let others post a few bit's before I share them.
Just because I do not want to influence any-ones opinion  ;)

Yes,...once in a psychotherapist session.

No, you can't be "Svengalied" into killing yourself,...or making a fool of yourself at a nightclub act, I don't know what goes with "show biz hypnotists" but you are never out of control when "under".

I would argue that (under the definition of hypnosis) you do not even have to leave the house, to be subjected, to the will of an entity other than your own consciousness.

You tell me...........
"Hey, let's get a 56in HD Plasma screen" off you go son, don't let me stop you, fucking sheep!!

What did it feel like?  Do you remember what happened the whole time?  Would you do it again?  Do you think it could work to make a person stop smoking etc?

Well I was at my psychotherapist once a few years ago and the subject of hypnosis came up and I expressed curiosity about it...so in turn he "put me under".
It felt like being stoned on Marijuana somewhat, with Dave Bru Beck's "Bru's Blues" or the first movement of "Moonlight" sonata playing,  but not exactly...Yes I remember everything, yes I would do it again.
As part of a stop smoking program,...it would probably help.

However...

People have a "Hollywood" concept of hypnosis and indeed of Freudian psychotherapy in general...They have in their minds scenes in films where if you can just be made to remember that your parents were total pricks to you,...something snaps,...and all your symptoms disappear down the loo...never to rear their ugly heads again....

No...

The reality is that the psychotherapist is like a personal trainer,...he discovers what the problem is and then prescribes activities/therapies that help...
This is why "self help gurus" like that guy with acromegly that used to be on the TV all the time selling his wares is only helpful in 10 percent of the people who try his program...It's a form of psychotherapy and it just so happens that the people who thrive on it are the ones with problems that the program helps...on the other 90 percent there are no therapeutic effects.

Proper psychotherapy has to be fitted to the patient.

yes, i went to a sports psychologist/hypnotist whilst preparing for a big meet. went 1 time a week for 4 weeks. honestly, i never felt "under" in any way.  just relaxed then the whole:

"picture the feeling youll have after you win,  now multiply it by 100 then 100 more. " etc., it was cool. hey i won!

probably wouldnt do it again though. not a $110 a shot! :-\
