had a brief argument with a buddy of mine about this
« on: August 18, 2011, 09:04:52 AM »
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/08/17/college-students-in-favor-wealth-distribution-are-asked-to-support-grade/?cmpid=cmty_fb_Gigya_College_Students_in_Favor_of_Wealth_Distribution_Are_Asked_to_Pass_Their_Grade_Points_to_Other_Students

i'm interested to hear what everyone thinks and if you think that this is an accurate microcosm of how wealth distribution works in this country.  and if it is not a fair comparison, why not?  I personally think wealth distribution is fine if it actually works.  But my opinion on the matter is that it doesn't work and only hurts both sides.  Go.

Redistribution of wealth is pure nonsense.

Why give money from productive people to those who will just destroy it?

Its true lunacy and idiocy at its best.

That's a great story.  Great idea.  I'm going to share this.

And yes, I think it's a fair comparison.

Why should anyone serve in the military?

It just supports the pussies who stay back at home and suck off of soldiers' sacrifices.

Redistributing the wealth is a made up term to scare people away from progressive taxation.

Taxation is about fairness not redistribution.

There is nothing fair about our current system when you have a small percentage of the population paying the majority of income taxes, and nearly half the population paying no income taxes.

A fair system would be something like a sales tax (in lieu of an income tax), where people could actually control how much or how little they pay, and everyone pays the same rate.

Wrong jackass!  Its supposed to be about paying for the functions of govt, not "fairness"

i have no problem with a progressive tax system.  the top 1% holds most of the wealth and they also supply most of the tax revenue.  fair enough.  where i take exception is when people keep using the fact that the top 1% holds most of the wealth but conveniently ignore the fact that most of the tax revenue also comes from those same people.  if you got all of your information from the mainstream news you wouldn't even think we had a progressive tax system.

I agree with most of this.  I just think those who do pay taxes, pay too much.  We ought to send as little of our money as possible to DC.

Since military service is voluntary you have no point

You're right.  A fair system would close the tax breaks many families get when they have children or file as a married couple.  Fairness for all in taxation would help cut down on the deficit.

The problem with a VAT tax only is that it moves the tax burden from the current system of those who can pay, a progressive taxation system, to those who can't, a regressive taxation system.   Lower income earners are the loser in the VAT only equation, and would require tax breaks or no VAT on essentials in order to get by.

The reason we have a huge deficit is because the government has far exceeded it's constitutional authority with entitlements....... fair, fairness that's all I ever hear from those that want to raise taxes on the rich. When in reality the government spends to much fucking money

I don't have a problem with breaks for families, etc. under the current system.

You make a good about a sales tax, although everyone (including lower income earners) would have more take home pay if we eliminated the income tax.  Even though they get the money back when they file their taxes, they would no longer be giving the government an interest-free loan.

Since you can't follow instructions, we'll just stick with pre-volunteer days.

Does that make it simple enough for your retarded ass?
