Ron destroys the rest, again.

Cue Shawn Hannity to accuse RPaul fans of cheating.  As always.

RP's answer about the liquidating the bad debt was probably over most peoples' head, but he is so right.  This is one of the reasons why the economy is never going to revive itself since the taxpayer is so saddled with the bad debt.

This is why I was in favor of letting everything collapse and start over.

I contend there would be no 'starting over'.

You see, we'd have China and Russia and everyone else "helping us in the name of stability".

IMO, your belief that things would go back to normal in a few years ignores this possibility.  Our enemies would take advantage and make damn sure the USA is never a major global influence again.

IMO, we go down the collapse road, and in the next 30 years, we will surely never seen anything as nice as we have it today ;)

Clueless.   Did you take economics to get your MBA?

All of this bad debt is lowering our stadard of living now and for the future.

Maybe you could look into that crystal ball of yours and give us the winning numbers for the mega millions lottery.

That was actually a decent debate for a change.  A few observations:

- Romney sounded pretty good.  He brings a great business background to the table.  That will really help him in the general if he gets the nomination.  He'll have to overcome the cynicism about his flip flops.

- Was surprised by Santorum.  I never really pay attention to him, but he actually did a good job.  Will never win, but said some good things.

- Huntsman is a good "new" voice to have in the race.  His biggest problem will not be working for Obama, but sharing some of Obama's big government views, like the stimulus, etc.

- Ron Paul continued to beat the debt drum, which is good.  That's what everyone should be talking about.  I cringe when he talks foreign policy.  Doesn't consider Iran a threat?  Let them develop nuclear weapons?   :-\

- Gingrich was decent, but his prepared response about "gotcha" questions was a little silly.  He should be asked tough questions.  The bad thing about it was he actually had a good explanation for his campaign turmoil, but that was lost with the whining about how questions were being asked.

- Cain was sort of an afterthought.  Didn't get a lot of questions.  He would be a good part of the new cabinet.

- Pawlenty was pretty blah.  Spent too much time attacking Bachmann.  Not his best performance.  He lacks the charisma to be a successful national candidate IMO.

- Bachmann looked a little stiff at times.  Loved her response to the dumb question about submitting herself to her husband.  Submission means mutual respect.  She was all over Obama.  She's going to do well in the primaries.

Overall, I still think Romney is the frontrunner, followed by Bachmann.  Based on what I'm reading, Perry will probably be right in that mix.

I agree with all of this.

Except that Bachmann has really got to step up her game on offering her version of economic recovery methods instead of just talking around the question.

True.  They all need to start talking about specific plans they will offer to try and fix our economic mess.

Very simple and easy:

1.  End ObamaCare
2.  Get rid of the EPA
3.  Toss the tax code and go to either a low but broad flat tax or sales tax.
4.  Get rid of capital gains tax or lower it to 5 - 10%

and on and on.

They only talk about worrying over other people's jobs when their own job is on the line.

Iran is about as much threat to the USA as a mugger prowling the streets of Madrid at night is to you in Hawaii.

Not really.  They have been supplying weapons to enemies who kill Americans.  They are a threat to our ally in the Middle East.  They indoctrinate their kids to hate Americans.  Pretty much everyone with access to intelligence info considers Iran a threat.

If we weren't mired down in tons of wars and occupations in that area they would not be in a position in to lill Americans and they have no air force, no navy and no real strike capacity. As for Israel, they can defend themselves. What does Israel's interests have to do with America's or yours?

Agreed.

I contend a slow, political process of change - like we're seeing with the repubs forcing obama to step spending - is the solution.

Not letting the economy collapse.

It seems 99.9999% of economists and people in govt agree collapse is a BAD thing.

You feel otherwise, and that's cool.

It's completely unrealistic to think we can pull our troops from everywhere around the world.  I don't want to get involved in things like civil war, unrest, etc., but we definitely need a presence around the globe.  We can argue about why people hate and want to kill Americans, don't respect international borders, breed terrorists, etc., but the fact is there are numerous threats around the world that we're in the best position to deal with.

We have to be the ones who lead an effort like Desert Storm, where a dictator invades a small, defenseless country like Kuwait and threatens to invade another (Saudi Arabia).  We need to take out terrorist training camps like we did in 2001, when those camps are used to plan attacks on the U.S.  We need to help our allies (like Israel) who are surrounded by people that want to exterminate them.  Our allies interests are our interests, because we need friends around the world.

Iran doesn't need an air force or navy to be a threat.  The biggest threat to our security is by a miniscule group of radical islamists who want to kill Americans.  They don't have squat in terms of military hardware.  Doesn't make them any less of a threat.

I am so glad that this paranoia is slowly being shelved around the nation.
