are multivitamins worth taking?
« on: July 08, 2011, 05:03:33 PM »
I've been reading online that your body can't actually absorb some of the minerals.  It's better to get your sources of vitamins and minerals from foods rather than a pill?

People from bodybuilding.com swear that taking a multivitamin will increase your lifts.  Something tell's me that even if I start taking a multivitamin my lifts won't  increase all of a sudden.

thanks

I don't know so much about them increasing your lifts, but they will for sure balance your body out and provider a healthier overall long term picture.

They can help with your overall health when combined with good eating.  In MHO though, taking multivitamins and eating like crap IS a waste of money.  Multivitamins  are just a supplment.

As far as increasing your lifts, only if the multivitamin contains Anadrol  :-X

are multivitamins worth taking?

The bioavailability of most vitamins in pill form is very, very low. You will be getting very little from it. You should take carotenes(not only the beta variety) for vitamin A, probiotic(bacteria-formed) vitamin B complex, liofilized acerola extract for vitamin C or ester-C, vitamin 1,25(OH)2D3 for vitamin D which is the most bioavailable form of vitamin D and mixed tocotrienols to further aid absorption, mixed tocopherols for vitamin E(D-beta tocopherol, D-delta tocopherol and especially D-gamma tocopherol which is the most active of all tocopherols on stopping protein oxiation and lipid peroxidation of cell membranes). You should wash it all down with organic blueberry juice twice a day, as anthocyanidines aid absorption of all these vitamins even further. It has to be organic blueberries because dark berries are the crops that they most heavily apply pesticides.

My problem with most multis is that they do not contain adequate amounts of what I would consider key ingredients.  They also are in low absorbable form.  Example..  Magnesium is usually in the form of oxide rather than a chelated, citrate, or aspartate.  Same with Zinc.  Potassium usually has a negligible amount also.

Most multis are usually loaded up on B-Vitamins at 10,000+ % of the RDA which makes it look like a “High Potency” Vitamin to the consumer.

I would say to get certain ingredients separately.  For me I take ZMA at night so there is Zinc and Magnesium.  Take Vitamin D- 5000 iu 3 or 4 days a week.  Potassium on its own to get a better dosage.  For me it’s a better way to approach getting those ingredients.

And I take these all for general health reasons.  Never have they done anything for my lifts nor did I expect them too.  The only way I could see it helping someone’s lifts is if that person had a severe deficiency and it was corrected from the Multi..and even saying that is a real stretch.

x2

I take a Multi, Vit. D, Fish Oil and additional Magnesium.

The Magnesium has helped my feet not to start to cramp and my w/o partner used to have leg pain at night until she started taking it.

Has anyone ever experienced any side effects from over loading on multi vitamins? reason being I noticed when I took my multi`s twice daily{morning/night} I started getting extreme pain and lose of strength/grip in my wrists and fingers. To the point where I would drop a glass of water for no reason or drop a shopping bad while walking for no reason other than instantly losing control/strenght of the hand.
Once I stopped taking the multi`s the problem went away after about a month. Started taking them again just to see if it really was the multi`s and sure as shit it came back.
Curious if anyone else has experienced this?

No multi available with all the vitamins in the forms I recommended in my post. You need to take them separately.

I've taken EVERYTHING!  All multivitamins, multiminerals, all that stuff, all it does is change the color of my piss.  I can be megadosing both vitamins and minerals and I still cramp up even after downing close to 2 gallons of water a day.

HOWEVER, if I eat a steak, cramps are much relieved.  It's all about your dietary choices.
