Simon Cowell is a weirdo. That is the point of Chris Heath's excellent GQ profile on the famously cantankerous American Idol judge and soon-to-be head honcho on the American version of The X Factor (the story is titled "Simon Cowell Is a Very Odd Boy," after all). He vows to leave his fortune to charities benefiting children and animals, but doesn't have any children or animals of his own. He watches old Hanna-Barbera cartoons every morning like a 9-year-old kid preparing for school. But the wackiest thing about Cowell appears to be how he maintains his 51-year-old body (and what he plans to do with it after he dies). Here's a rundown:
His breakfast consists of a billion gallons of liquid:He begins with hot water with lemon, then drinks papaya juice with lime, then has tea. And then it really gets interesting: Cowell always enjoys three different kinds of smoothies -- spinach, antioxidant, and a super smoothie -- that require very precise ingredients. The spinach smoothie always has 12 ice cubes. The antioxidant contains 25 green grapes. The contents of the super smoothie are so ridiculous, they must be listed in full: 126 milliliters of grape juice, 20 milliliters of blueberry puree, 20 milliliters of strawberry puree, 20 milliliters of apple puree, 10 milliliters of lingonberry juice, 8 milliliters of acerola juice, and 8 milliliters of aronia juice.
He gets injected with whatever remaining vitamins he could possibly require via intravenous drip.Every week Cowell spends a half-hour with a needle in his arm while he receives B12, magnesium, vitamin C, and, "something for your liver." He insists, "You feel all the vitamins going through you. It's indescribable but very calming, and then it gives you energy for a good few days afterwards."
He wants to be frozen when he dies."It's an insurance policy. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it does work, I'll be happy. If it's possible, and I think it will be, why not have a second crack? Does that sound crazy? I think it's a good idea."
