15 lbs usually... I've seen some where the counterweights are a bit lighter and the bar is 25 lbs unweighted but those are the only two weights I've ever heard or know of.
How do we truly know what a Smith machine bar weighs???In other words....if we have 2 plates on each side.....is it less than 225??? I know the olympic bar weighs 45 pounds.....but how about the Smith machine??? I thought that I had heard each machine is a little different.....some 15 pounds....others are heavier......let's discuss.
Depends on the smith machine, some of the older smith machines are heavier than 45lbs.
Some shitty ones do indeed seem heavier than just free weights. Terrible angles, shit maintenance in some cases, etc. I always liked the Flex smith's where you could alter the position of the bench in so many ways, hit good lines to get a great pump, and feel 100% sure of being able to lock it out training alone. Smooth, the actually weight doesn't matter if you make it a challenge Could do most presses on it and feel the muscle work better than Hammer stuff to me, and I like Hammer stuff.
