The only reason Cutler got beat and Yates never did
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:58:30 PM »
The internet.  In this day and age of technology, people can easily view pictures and videos to compare the bodybuilders and make a pretty cut and dry judgment about who the best bodybuilder was on the day of the olympia.  When Yates was competing, fans could only look at a few shots from flex magazine or whatever, and didn't have enough pictures / information to decide who the best body builder was.

If Yates was competing in the 2000s, his olympia thievery's would not have gone unnoticed and the fans would make a big scene about how the olympia is fixed.  If cutler was competing in the mid 90s, he would have beaten heath and held on to the olympia throne.  Fans wouldn't have the pictures and videos that are available now to clearly see who the winner really was (Wolf).

The olympia is as real as WWE wrestling.  I know it's hard for some of you bodybuilding fanboys to accept that.
I dont like twinks.

hey, if cutler had pulled the 'torn biceps' joke in 1994, it would have run in the magazines as FACT.

There would have been no commentary.  Sure, you'd have 2000 readers who would say "yeah right", but the images might have been cleaned up, his story would be backed with 'credible' writers, and it would have gone unchallenged.  Fans wouldn't have beeen able to create funny images about it or LOL and create polls on it.

Internet changes everything.  You won't have Phil winning 6 straight O's today - but he would have won 92-97 without hesitation.

and now we got gh15 running around.  bodybuilders aren't the "superheros" they pretended to be in the past.

I agree with the OP's statement about the internet really involving fans and critics more in bodybuilding which is a great thing for the growth of the sport.  However, I disagree about it changing the outcomes of contests.  If yòu go to a top bodybuilding competition it is much different what you see in person.  I remember seeing Jose Raymond and Kai Greene this year at the NY Pro and in person they had condition that just looked insanely dry and hard.  Jose had veins all over his body like a road map and was just beyond dry.  Then I look at the pics on MD the next day and they just didn't do justice to what I had seen the night before.  In person a bodybuilding competition can be a very different story than the one that the photos tell.

When will printing techniques and photography provide the bodybuilding fans the definition they deserve.

100% agree, Dexters condition at the 2008 australian pro was simply incredible as was kais in 2009 and 2010. also when i saw ronnie guest pose in person 1 week after the 2005 olympia his condition up close was hard to believe. photos never do any of these guys justice
