Reporting from Sacramento— With the announcement early Monday that he had outlawed the public display of handguns in California, Gov. Jerry Brown bucked a national trend toward more lenient firearms laws and placed himself in the political cross-hairs of the state's 2nd Amendment activists.

Brown, the owner of three guns, said in a statement that he signed a bill banning the open carrying of handguns at the urging of law enforcement officials, who included Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck. It will take effect Jan. 1.

"I listened to the California police chiefs," the governor wrote.

what happens when you allow OPEN carry of weapons?  What happens at lunch diner when you have 5 guys with handguns on hips enter a restaurant and spread out?  What happens when you have 5 guys in camo show up at a political event with rifles on their back.

OH - What happens when you have five MUSLIMS show up with shaved bodies, legal AR-15s on their back, and they decide to bow toward mecca and chant in unison in a shopping mall.

Yeah, to an extent I can agree with you - good points.  But open carry's been around for a while and you don't typically see that type of thing going on.

open carry, IMO, is a bad idea.  Part of the ability to save the day is that your own gun is a surprise.  If you're wearing a piece, you'll be the first one with a slug in the head when a person robs the bank anyway.

Where are you?  It's exceptionally rare for me to anyone open carry.  In fact, I can only think of a handful of times I've ever seen it.

This shit hasn't happened yet and those laws have been on the books for years. Any move to ban weapons is a long road to attack the 2nd Amendment. 99% of people who care concealed or open aren't ever going to be a problem. If 5 shaved muslims have Ar's, they're planning on using them for something. U've never carried a weapon for any length of time, it goes from cool to boat anchor pretty quick.
