Anyone ever deal with bursitis of the elbow?
« on: November 29, 2011, 04:37:21 AM »
Anyone have/had chronic bursitis? I banged my elbow last spring, it swelled up like Popeye's. Got it asperated (drained). It filled back up--though not as big--over the summer. Drained again. Couple weeks ago I whacked it again and guess what, it's the size of a golf ball. Need to talk to my orthopedic...see what my options are aside from constatly draining the damned thing...

any advices?

bursitis?   nope

but I once had ostyomelitis of the patella.  That's the the thing on top of the knee bone and it's not nice.

I was a child and had stuck the skewer which I was (as milk monitor) punching through the crates of milk to put straws in them.  I took out my knee with a dirty sweker and was in hospital for a year.  They almost cut my leg off.  I was 13.

Turns out Henry VIIIth died of that what I had.  He was punctured by a dirty josting pole.

I think they are able to fix most things nowadays and if you dance like a normal person you'll start thinking there's nothing wrong with you?

Trouble is, elbows and knees are more difficult to fix than brains.  Hips are a horrid op.  Although I have no problem with mine.  I have an elderly ex-workmate who has had both hips replaced and is nowadays out walking her dogs for miles each and every day.

Are you right handed or left handed?  You'll need to learn to be ambidextrous?

Get well soon.
take care

... I had tennis elbow once, that's a thing to do with the wrist?  I did my back in once lifting paving stones but I stretched and all is okay, I've never broken a bone and my nose and teeth are great, fingers crossed.

they drained my knee for 6 months till they realised it was a bone infection.  They cut me open 3x and in the end took out the patella.  I was unable to walk for 9 months.

I adore flat knees nowadays, especially on men.  Flat knees turn me on, one of mine is pointy and has 3 different op scars across it.

I have scars better than any footballer's you've ever seen across my k nee.  Yet I have cycled and danced ever after, I got over it and never let it get me down.

Hello Darlin?  Last Spring isn't chronic anything, (chronic means for years on end?) it's a new wound you've gotten and you'll heal quickly, okay?

Yeah I had Bursitis twice from doing upright rows...hurt like hell and was chronic...very hard to get rid of...the only thing you can do is rest it and work around it...but it really makes all your poundages go down when you are lifting....its a really annoying injury that stays with you...One of the best ways to combat it is to take a 25 lb dumbbell and hold it down at your side then twirl it back and forth from side to side....this exercises that specific muscle in the elbow

that's the one.
You go find the correct exercise for the specific injury.

I was able to get through the tennis elbow which was hugely painful by bending about or alternately resting my right wrist whilst pretending it didn't hurt for about 3 months.  Then after about 5 months it didn't hurt anymore.

Obviously I had to learn to clean my teeth and brush my hair with the other hand and that was hard, but I don't regret that, it happened.  I'm ambidextrous now, which is a good thing.

any advices?

cortisone shots into the bursa

surgery to remove the bursa

don't exercise it nor over extend usage during the flare up /swelling or it makes it worse

RICE method until it's better .. and an elbow wrap may be your best friend from now on if you don't plan on lessening your activiity level after it's healed
