Amish built Electric heaters????

What???...I thought the Amish were not supposed to have anythibng to do with electricity!  Yet I just saw a commercial promoting Amish built electric heaters.

They're not against electricity.  There is no fundamental Amish law against electricity.  They even produce their own electricity for vital needs.  They are more against relying on outside sources for such needs than having an absolute against it.  Heating would not be whatsoever out of the realm of what the Amish would consider using electicity for.

Yes!...1500 watts is always 1500 watts of heat...
but there is an interesting proviso...In some places the electricity is cheaper at night...so there are electric heaters with a hundred pound block in it...at night when the power is cheaper a heating element heats it up inside of a closed box until its blistering hot... then during the day a shutter opens and heats the room with the hot block of something without using electricity during a good part of the day...It's called a storage radiator.

I have a finished attic with cathedral ceiling, that is about 450 sqft.  If stays about 20 degrees colder than the 2nd floor.  Do you have any idea what wattage baseboard heater I would need to heat that space?  I don't think I need to go with the 10watts per sqft since it gets a lot of heat from the two floors below.

thats a heap of current 4500 watts...to run that would cost 4.5X...say 13 cents a kwh...
4.5X.13= 0.58  cents an hour.

You could also try using a forced air electric heater,...an electric heater with a fan to blow out the hot air.  If you are handy put in a heavy duty outlet for it on it's own breaker.  It may be all you need,...unless you are where it gets really cold.

Cool, that's a good idea.  I'm running 240v up there for the Window A/C anyway.
