iran getting nuclear power is more dangerous for the west than iran getting nukes, because no one in the west thinks iran will ever use nukes. nukes are merely an invasion deterrent, no one will actually use them offensively because that means total and utter nuclear retaliation, bad news for whoever is on the receiving end of usa + europe's total nuclear arsenal. right now, iran is importing more energy than it exports, if it gets an operational nuclear powerplant then it will be less reliant on the west, which right now has a certain level of control over iran via iran being dependent on imports.
