First off, blaming Elway for this is absurd. Most of the hiring and promotions go through the GM of the dealership. The owner usually does not get involved unless it's to hire or promote someone to the GM position. Now if you have multiple owners and one of them happens to be s omeone like John Elway, I can guarntee you that he stops by there once a year at most.
Second of all, car dealers are a small business (unless you are talking about a big auto group chain), and for the most part they operate like a small business. Generally the entire HR department is tagged on as a responsibility to one person who already has another main job at the dealer.
They hire, promote, fire, not based on affirmative action bullshit but on who can get the job done (or who is friends with the right people).
Third. In the past four years car dealers have been hurting just like anyone else, laying people off and shifting responsibilities on the ones that were left. So it comes as absolutely no surprise that someone was asked to accept responsibilities of another position without a pay raise or title ( seriously who gives a fuck about a title if there is no additional money in it).
This whole story is a fucking joke and I guarantee you there is at least one person in every single dealership who can say they have been fucked over in one way or another, but wouldn't have the nerve to bring race into it.
