I think the OP makes a good point about his opinion, but addresses it the wrong way.
First of all, you take 2 bodybuilders of different heights, different genetics, different access to drugs, and different levels of competition and compare them.
You can't take an NFL linemen from 50 years ago and expect him to compete in todays game can you?
The "beauty" of bodybuilding is gone in many aspects, sure. However, if you want to compete at the highest levels of todays competition than you need to do what is necessary to compete there.
Besides, if you want to try and look like Serge Nubret because thats your personal preference then go for it! I doubt anyone will get there because they are not in fact Serge. However, a smiliar look is achievable and if thats what you want then go for that look. You may or may not be successful in todays competitive bodybuilding realm, but if you don't want to look like a modern day bodybuilder then uuuuummmm don't! lol.
However, if you want to be top of the top in TODAYS bodybuilding comps... then you need to stop focusing on how you want to look and start focusing on the look that is going to win.
