When Will We Reach The Tipping Point?
« on: February 14, 2012, 12:32:11 PM »

Greece's tipping point was government debt that exceeded 140% of the size of their economy. Right now, the US's debt-to-GDP is about 100% and is projected to rise to 110% by the end of 2013 according to the CBO. BUT that doesn't include state and local government debt OR unfunded liabilities (e.g. government pensions, Social Security and Medicare).

Taking this into account, when do you think we'll reach our tipping point? Two years? Four? Six? Ten? And what actions are you taking in order to protect yourself, your family, and your wealth?

Im preparing for duel citizenship with Canada for when I graduate, Im moving myself and my wife just north of the border (my family lives just inside the United States, about 60 miles from Canada). That way, if shit gets REALLY bad, my family can come stay with us.
Honestly - if it were just me, id probably ride it out and see where its going. But I have to do whats best for my family, I cant think about just myself. And for the sake of stability, for the sake of a future for our kids, Im gonna head North, where their future outlook is just a tad more stable than ours. Lol.

I hate to run from my country - but honestly it doesnt seem like anyone else gives a damn about fixing it.

I sincerely we believe we are a year or two away from collapse.  i think obama and Fed are doing a classical pump and dump operation to make it past the election and then all hell will break loose.

The numbers all over the place are so staggering that there will be no other outcome but collapse

Not quite. Look at all the signs, were on the verge of a massive collapse, Roman style. What did the quality of life do in Rome after the collapse? What happened there? What happened to their freedoms?
Canada's government may not have the same base of individual liberties, but their citizens sure as hell seem to have more freedom than we have.
Add to that their economy isnt on the verge of collapse. Their government isnt expanding exponentially.

We do have a growing freedom movement here, don't we? In 2016 or even later, we could expect a Rand Paul Presidency? Or perhaps even Jim DeMint or some other fiscal conservative willing to look long and hard at the budget and start cutting anywhere and everywhere possible?

If I were an optimist, I would be saying the same thing. Unfortunatley, years of reality have jaded me to the point that I believe the government will not change. There is too many politicians with far too much to lose to allow a few idealists to change the status quo of their money/power grabbing.

I honestly feel like the politicians know the US is on the verge of collapsing, and are taking advantage of it by grabbing as much money from the people as they can before the collapse, so that they can go live like kings when it goes.
