kinda weirds me out to see my name get used like a definitive answer on subjects, never my intention and actually what i meant was a response to a video of some guy talking about how "you don't need steroids to get 22 inch arms, you just need to incorporate powerlifting" claiming that you could get 22 inch arms by 1 rep maxing on the preacher curl, which is pretty pointless in every sense since biceps are never a sticking point in any compound lift nor will doing 1 rep maxes add any size.

i also think if you are trying to work on sticking points for powerlifting, it's better to just do lockouts or incorporate chains/bands. attempting to do 1rep maxes with isolation movement is a waste of time.

what I don't get is why would anyone want to do 5 reps on any isolation exercise. Is this something your old coach told you he would do to show them there steroid users how strong he was compared to them?

I rarely go past the 35's for any iso work but there's plenty of 15" armed hardcore Iron Warriors who swing twice as much as that around

I was doing fifteen sets of barbell curls pyramid between 115lb and 160lb when i weighed 160lb.

Arms were guess how much? after doing that 6 months.  14 and a half. Heavyweight just ends up strengthening my tendons and bones, it bypassed my muscle. Like the lower weight class Olympic lifters lol.

I don't even worry about weight i just focus on feeling the moevement nowadays.

Your form probably wasn't as good as you think. If you could strictly curl 160 for reps your arms would be massive.  ;)

good luck getting big bis. I have long ass arms for my height and I've been stuck at 15s for like forever. Broke 16 after my superdrol cycle but then afterwards my arms grew so went down to 15.5

Nah it was very strict.

Everyone in my family has insane arms too.

I wasn't eating fuck all at the time and going to volume coincided with far better diet so i wouldn't say 100%.

But volume feels better to me.

Bi's are a small muscle i don't think you need to train them that heavy, you end up strenghening tendons, cns and what not.

I do agree with you about training arms with volume, for sure. I think you'd be surprised if you videod how strict the 160 wasn't though. Curling BW strictly is an incredible feat.

I'm really strong at certain movements. I look like a twink though, probably better the other way around... :(

It depends on muscle groups. My chest likes weight, tri's too, but bi's are a really small muscle group which people forget, upper arm is two thirds tri.

It might vary though, i remember a guy who despised bench press said he never got any growth out of it and saw great gains doing fly's. ???

i think i feel the same way as everyone else, higher volume for arms works best, but at the same time i think most peoplpe also agree higher reps works best for legs too. it just seem like the more volume, with the higher intensity, the better muscles grow, and i think that is perfectly well substantiated by the fact that hitting the same muscle 2 times a week will give better results than just once a week.

Funny thing is, volume is a relative term. These days doing 3-4 ex per muscle group for a few sets is volume, in the 70s/80s it was crazy 3-4 hour+ workouts.

im a push guy.. im strong at pull to but i prefer push...harder to cheat at push movements..
quite strong on tris but that will tke a toll on the elbow....
so i go moderate most time and rarely super heavy...... very rarely...
this stratagem works for me....
