Floyd Mayweather is finally speaking out about why he is reluctant to get in the ring with Manny Pacquiao. He claims that it has nothing to do with fear, but out of concern for his personal health.
Mayweather stated, "I am in the game to win, not just inside the ring, but outside the ring. My health is more important than anything. I don't fear no one. If you're insinuating that I'm a scared fighter, why would you want to watch a scared fighter?"
Talks about this fight have been steady for months. In reality, talks about this fight have really been going on for about two years now. Throughout this two years, Mayweather was giving one excuse after another for not fighting Pacquiao. There were fake retirements, drug tests, blaming Bob Arum and other excuses. One has to wonder why it took Mayweather this long to give his supposed real reason for not wanting to take the ring.
Prior to him now talking about being concerned for his health, Mayweather was talking about the money issue associated with the match. Rumors were a 50/50 split among he and Pacquiao. Mayweather was talking about how this was unreasonable. At one point, Pacquiao was talking about not even caring about the money, but that he just wanted this match to happen.
So, now we have Mayweather giving another reason: his health. If Mayweather knows he can beat Pacquiao - as he has said he is not afraid to fight him - then why the health excuse? It seems he truly feels that Pacquiao would put a hurting on him in the ring.
Mayweather was quick to deny that Pacquiao has the ability to hand him his first loss. However, he also said, "One shot can end your whole career. Boxing is a very deadly sport. I come first. Self preservation. I gotta worry about my family."
So really, Mayweather is all over the place and seems to be coming up with a dozen reasons why he will not fight Pacquiao. He should have stuck with the money excuse because at least it didn't make him look straight up afraid.
