So Mills Lane had only had his 49th birthday, ten days prior to the Trevor Berbick versus Mike Tyson fight.

It's sort of cool when someone who always looked old is still alive. Although lately, some of passed away.

Mills looked older than he was at 49, but didn't age much since then.

Now is as good a time as any to revisit the Berbick VS. Tyson fight. As far as the "eye test" goes, no one boxes better than Tyson, IMO. And Mills was an excellent ref.

RIP Mills Lane.

He definitely refereed some unusual fights. Tge bite, Oliver McCalls breakdown.

He commanded respect. But was always compassionate.  I remember when Roger Mayweather was knocked out cold by an unheralded Columbian puncher named Raphael Pineda. Roger was sitting down afterwards wondering wtf happened and Mills walked up to him put his hand on his shoulder and told him 'he got you right on the button Rog.' The way he said it always stuck with me. Good ref and a good man.
