Rich Froning, last's years winner, reportedly did 141 burpees in 7 min, Dan Bailey doing 138.  That's almost one burpee every two seconds for 7 straight minutes!

The thing i dont like about crossfit and speed exercise records is that the extra speed almost always comes with sloppy technique.  So then it becomes a matter of who can bend the rules the most.

An example, using push-ups:

I was just watching the 2011 games while doing cardio the other day.  Couldn't help but wonder what kind of cycles those gals were running.  Clen, anavar and GH?  No idea really, I don't know anything about juice.

My favourite crossfit girl (whose name i cant remember) peed on the floor once during a competition.  She was shredded.  I wonder what the reaction would be if a girl that looked like that entered into the Olympic Games.   These girls make the East German swim team look like couch potatoes.

edit:  Miranda Oldroyd was the name.

Has a better physique than most of the guys doing cross-fit

I agree that there is some bad form, depending on the athlete.  The elites are elite because they can pull it off with mostly great form.  That's why they're elite, their efficient.  I mean, look at any gym, it's hard not to turn anywhere without seeing some guy using bad form in pulling deads or even doing bicep curls.

The competition can bring bad form, but those people don't get very far, and end up hurting themselves.

Burpees are the real deal holyfield. They'll make you want to puke if you combine them with sprints or box jumps.

Great for the shoulders and spine. :-\

Are these like 10 pound weights disguised as 45s?

Some crossfitters can snatch 135. Me = impressed.  :D

Look at the prize money for the games. It's shocking.

1. 1st place man and woman, US$250,000 each
2. 2nd place man and woman, US$50,000 each
3. 3rd place man and woman, US$25,000 each
4. 1st place Team, US$30,000 per team
5. 2nd place Team, US$12,000 per team
6. 3rd place Team, US$6,000 per team
7. 1st place Master (each division), US$3,000
8. 2nd place Master (each division), US$1,000
9. 3rd place Master (each division), US$500

Open: 250k. Master: 3k. Not fair.

Coach Burgener is a fool. Why is it so fucking hard for you Americans to get it? Snatch, clean, jerk and all that stuff, they are just movements! Crossfit has snatches, so fucking what? It has deadlifts, doesn't make it powerlifting!

I think this is the product of overhyping and overmarketing weightlifting. Countries that have a stronger history of weightlifting can approach it with more logical and unbiased way, whereas Americans, if they ever take up weightlifing, have to praise it to the highest heavens to justify their weightlifting to themselves.

the more i see the more i think crossfit = bullshit.
Aside from the barbell work it's like the phys ed we used to do at primary school when we weren't doing any sports, though we probably had better form!

It utterly astounds me that they have actually have a "crossfit games" and there's prize money!

ESPN makes a lot of sports more lucrative.

Dreadlifter,

Check out the elite athletes, it's no joke.  Try a workout, it's no joke.

And the money went way up when Reebok joined up as the sponsor.  Having Reebok opened up the ESPN doors.

CrossFit Open Workout 12.4:

As many rounds/reps in 12 minutes of:
150x Wall Balls
90x Double Unders (two spins in one jump on a jump rope)
30x Muscle Ups (ring pull-up into a ring dip)

This should be called "Thinning the Herd".  Sick workout, I don't know if anyone is even going to be able to complete one round.  Graham Holberg, 2010 Games Winner, only go to 25x Muscle Ups or 265 reps.

One critique I'd have is that the Open has been lacking serious max weights, which is a part of fitness and CF, so I'd like to see more max weights.
