to answer the question.... when i was bigger, my waist pushed 41" with ab's/serratus, and those who remember me, remember i used quite a bit of insulin (and gear). Now, it's been about 5yrs since I used insulin heavily (i started using it again a year ago, but stopped b/c my body wasnt responding to it the way it did in the past.. i looked worse), and my 34" pants are loose on me and require a belt. i'm also a little leaner than i was in the past, and using a 1/10 of the gear, but still maintain between 217-227 at 7% (depending on how much food i can eat during my 13hr workdays at the gym)
i believe the 'roid gut' is from a combination of things.
(in no particular order)
Insulin
Food intake (insulin makes you hungry)
steroid use/oral use (liver enlargement... ever see an alcoholic's belly?)
heavy training... squatting, deadlifting, where you push your belly out against your belt
genetics... guys with long legs and short torso's esp..
