I'm guessing this is a modern rescoring. Dude would have been laughed out of the baroque for something so metronomic.
I don't think so, at the time there were very few pieces written for the cello. Works like this would be seen as a novelty, possibly even break thru, because it shows (many of their works) the range of the cello, instead of being pure melody driven, and taking a back seat to the violin.
