As all of you know I have been absent from GetBig physically but spiritually I have been with all of you. I strongly believe that the body has all of the answers, wisdom, and potential to heal itself, and I work to draw from those powerful mechanisms. For example, imagine yourself on a journey with your body as the road map. You hold the map in its entirety, and you must see all the landmarks, stopovers, turnarounds and explore them. Some of you already know that I underwent surgery and now I'm on the mend. I've been using revolutionary techniques to bring myself back to 110%. Rather than using a “band-aid” approach to therapy, this interdisciplinary course of treatment meets my specific needs. Through a combination of body-centered approaches I address underlying issues and identify the best ways to manage any symptoms I may be experiencing. Journaling is frequently recommended, and take-home “assignments” that encourage personal exploration are often suggested. These treatment methods and exercises move my healing along swiftly, and put ME in the driver’s seat!
I have come to the conclusion that emotions play an integral part of my healing. People who have good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. They have learned healthy ways to cope with the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships.
However, many things that happen in your life can disrupt your emotional health and lead to strong feelings of sadness, stress or anxiety. These things include: Having a child, New Job, illness, money problems, promotions, etc. etc. People need to realize that "good" change can also be as bad as negative change. See where I'm going here?
Your body responds to the way you think, feel and act. This is often called, and remember Frank Zane, the “mind/body connection.” When you are stressed, anxious or upset, your body tries to tell you that something isn’t right. For example, high blood pressure or a stomach ulcer might develop after a particularly stressful event, such as the death of a loved one. Poor emotional health can weaken your body's immune system, making you more likely to get colds and other infections during emotionally difficult times. Also, when you are feeling stressed, anxious or upset, you may not take care of your health as well as you should. You may not feel like exercising, eating nutritious foods or taking medicine that your doctor prescribes. Abuse of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs may also be a sign of poor emotional health. So let's get positive GetBig. Lay off the drugs, buy supplements and start moving!!! GetBig, start expressing yourselves in positive, appropriate ways. Live a balanced life and get off the computer and get on the treadmill! Develop resilience! When GetBiggers get mad they start name calling and running to mods like their mothers. You need to start to cope in a way that is healthy both calming to the body and mind. And lastly, take good care of yourself because no one else will!
Hope all this helps. Thank you for all the cards (Thank you Dr. Dutch for all your one on one coaching via phone, it's almost like we are the same person) the letters and PM's that provided encouragement throughout my ordeal. None of your kindness went unnoticed.
