I'm nowhere even close to being able to afford one, but I do know of some military officers who make between $13K and $15K monthly after taxes who absolutely will not buy a car over $35,000. Their wives may drive a loaded '12 Passat, and they usually drive something along the lines of a mid to early nineties Honda Accord...or in one case a sputtering '87 Toyota pick-up. :-X

I know a guy who ~10 years ago was worth 104 million (not sure what his gb handle is  ;D ) and he drove  an older model Ford Explorer....just was not into cars.  I think he has some others now though.

Well you have to be were I was to understand it ;) and I generally speaking don't care what "most" people say.

And who says I don't have money? I said right now I make half of the money I made for 2 - 3 years, I still have some left which I don't need to touch since I am happy were I am, I don't have the urge to buy me an expensive car or go on shopping sprees - my pleasure these days is to enjoy a moderate life, I have two friends that I can truly count on a little web business that keeps me intersted a family that I love and adore and die for today a son that is the coolest kid (like every parent would say).
I like that I have to save two month or more to buy me something that costs 500 or what ever, I really appreciate things again - like for excample a few days ago I worked on our office / third beedroom and I bought all the stuff cheap from IKEA lovely style and I got so excited and carried away making it a nice place to study and read and feel good - a place for my wife when she has enough looking after the kid and needs a bit of her time as well, It has nice desk with good pc and a boss chair all the stuff you need for a moderate home office nice lighting and all - 8 years back I would have never bought anything from IKEA but it had to be all super expensive and branded, now I appreciate all this stuff so much more - I sit there and go - yeah thats a nice place and I am somewhat happy :).

I've learned that due to many many complicated reasons in the past which are too fucking deep rooted I will never be 100% happy but I give it my best shot for the years that I have left - and I mean its easy compare yourself to anybody in some shitty third world country and you just know how lucky you are - I never have to worry that my son is hungry - trust me once you become a partent thats all you worry about, your kids.

Couldn't agree more. 5 yrs ago I had a business that was doing quite well in addition to my 9-5 job which wasn't too shabby either. At some point I just lost track of what was important and my appreciation of what a dollar is got very skewed. I had all the toys and trappings of wealth but just wasn't ever happy with what I had. Fast forrward 5 yrs, a divorce and re-adjustment on finances and I've learned if you aren't careful, no matter how much you make, it will never be enough. I'm much happier these days and appreciate things a lot more. I think back to all the money I wasted on "stuff" and it's really stupid.

in order to own an exotic supercar. Something like a lamborghini or ferrari.

Is it feasible to save up for one or will the cost of maintainence be too much to handle with a small salary?

 ???

Asking a question like that is similar to someone approaching me in the gym for arm training advice and asking, "I want bigger biceps.  Should I do barbell curls or db curls and how much weight should I use?"  It's all relative.

Despite that, the question is easy to answer.  If you have to ask the question to begin with you're nowhere close to being able to purchase one.

There are very few guys who don't fall into the classic trap that is showing your wealth to gain the social gratifications of being wealthy. Generally, they're the more intelligent ones. Sometimes just the greediest and stingiest. Or they just like to spend their money on certain things. I had a client I sold three apartments to. He had about 25 properties around the world and most of them he hadn't stayed a single day in. He had about thirty cars too, mostly old Mercedes and a few Bentleys. I asked him once why he was buying so many cars and apartments. That was a stupid question so I got a stupid answer (that I didn't expect). He told me: "Because I don't care for planes nor boats".

Men who have failed at every aspect of life, whine about men with vast amounts of money.

What ever happened to living in the moment, as long as it is still responsible?  If I ever have enough money for a Lambo, them I will get it.  You never know when you will kick the bucket.  Saving money is nice, but it doesn't do you any good when you are dead.

I think one of the problems with that way of thinking is it doesn't account for the future. At a particular time in your life, you may have "enough" money to buy a Lambo, but if you don't prepare properly for the future, you could find yourself living out of that Lambo 2 yrs down the road when things change unexpectedly. I'm all for enjoying life in the now, but experience has taught me to prepare for the future first by investments, just in case.

The future is never guaranteed.  Neither is tommorrow.  Shit, I am probably already fucked out of my social security.  There will probably be a "Boston Tea Party" type revolution if they ever announce the end of social security.  I would have given those rat bastards countless thousands of dollars for nothing.

No, we don't.  But if it makes you feel better to think that, have at it.

Transit costs should never be more than 10 percent of your take home salary, and transit time shouldn't ever be more than 10 percent of your work day. If it is your doing something wrong.

Anyhow people in this day and age tend to goto two illogical simplistic extremes it's all about money or money is just a number. Both couldn't be farther from the truth and both ignore the complexity of money.

Money isn't one thing if you can't sparse that tree you should learn how.
Money is resources
Money is progress
Money is health
Money is security
Money is status
Money is a reward
Money is a place holder not real
Money is what unites society
Money is a measurement
Money is fluid  and ever changing
Money is time
Money is an investment
Money is a modern way of life
Money is a legacy and part of family
Money is prosperity
Money is freedom

People mix and match this these thing in the most  foolish of ways it's a real sad, as it's probably the greatest thing ever if respected and understood, mauling all those things together, or ignoring any one of those things is where all the trouble comes from.

Shawn Ray leased a Lambo from a friend's dealership, was earning about 130-150K yearly, which he noted.  I hope this helps.
Are we to take into consideration his mother's cocaine operation?
