If Tony Tucker could go the distance, and Buster Douglas knock him out, Ali would make him into salad. Tyson had trouble with tall guys with great jabs-Ali's was the best and he was 6'3"- game over.

TYS0N WASN'T EVEN 50 PERCENT AT THE BUSTER D0UGLAS FIGHT. AFTER HIS TRAINER DIED, HE WENT  D0WNHILL FR0M THERE. HE DIDN'T EVEN TRAIN F0R THAT FIGHT. N0RT0N PUT A BEATING 0N ALI AND TYS0N W0ULD MURDER HIM IF Y0U WANT T0 G0 BY THAT L0GIC. TYS0N W0ULD RAPE ALI. ALI WAS THE M0ST 0VERRATED HEAVYWEIGHT 0F ALL TIME.

And then Tyson struggled against Razor Ruddick, lost to Evander Holyfield twice- did he forget to train all those times too? Some of us actually watched all those fights :).

Ali beat great fighters...Tyson beat a bunch of nobodies.  Ali was the best heavyweight of a stacked era.  Tyson wasn't even the best of the weak era he fought in.  You people who think Tyson would overcome Ali's jab, a nine or ten inch reach advantage and Ali's huge edge in brains and heart are fucking delusional ESPN bred fanboys

Hahahahahaha. You sound like a complete fucking idiot.

He WENT downhill after D'mato died? He WON every single belt and probably knocked out 15 people in between Cus dying and him losing in Japan. It seems the vast majority of people on here that think Tyson is the greatest fighter ever are the ones who actually know the LEAST about him and the qualiy of fighters he faced. Fucking getbig.com man...never ceases to amaze me! LOL

Tyson was a one of a kind HW, due to him being short for a HW, his defense, and ability to break the distance very quickly. Once Kevin Rooney was gone, he collapsed. But even at his best, Tyson didn't fight such great fighters; Holmes, Spinks, Berbick were way past their prime (Berbick was never such a great fighter anyway) and a one-handed Tony Tucker took him the whole distance. Bonecrusher Smith also went the whole 12 rounds with him and he was just good enough to carry Ali or Frazier's jock strap.

Tyson versus a prime Larry Holmes, not the 40 year old version he fought in '88, would have been a good fight. Holmes had one of the best jabs ever for a HWT and it would have been a good matchup.

I agree. Holmes last great fights were against Cooney and that senseless beating of Randall Cobb. He was already on the downhill side against Whiterspoon already. By the time he fought Tyson he was way overweight and too old of course. But a young Holmes would have given Tyson a hard time as he was very mobile, accurate and had that great jab you mentioned.

D'Amaton died when Tyson's record was something like 10-0 or 11-0. He went on to win about 25 bouts after that. The guy was trained by Kevin Rooney for most of his heyday.

Exactly. It he would have went downhill right after Cus died almost nobody would know who he was. He didn't begin his downslide til 4 or 5 years later.

If you have seen both fight you would have to be around 50 at least likely a bit older to have seen an Ali from the 60's.
with that said if you are younger than that you have to rely on video wich is ok, however, it is also important to have seen their apponents fight other heavyweights to gauge their ability.
For example; watch Frazier fight Quarry twice or Norton fight Quarry or Petterson fight Chuvalo. then perhaps watch Bruno fight Lewis etc...
A real fan of the sport knows that a young Ali at 6' 3'' and 215 would be able to box Tyson for 15 rounds, I can not imagine Tyson being bigger and stronger than Sonny Liston or have more determination and toughness than Joe Frazier, or shear power than George Foreman.
Could Tyson beat any of them??
So bottom line: Ali rather easy.

No thanks. I'll just ask someone who has the educational level necessary to use a phone book.  :D
