Bentivolio leads Cassis in GOP primary for McCotter's seat

First-time political candidate Kerry Bentivolio appeared headed to an easy victory over write-in candidate Nancy Cassis in the Republican primary race for the 11th Congressional District seat vacated by Thad McCotter, while U.S. Reps. Gary Peters also appeared headed for victory over fellow U.S. Rep. Hansen Clarke.

The write-in candidate running against Bentivolio was hand-picked by the local GOP elites. Consequently, the local newspapers including the Detroit News and Free Press endorsed the write-in, Cassis, who was not as "extreme" as Bentivolio. Bentivolio winning is basically a big middle finger to the entire political-media establishment here. Bentivolio's "extreme" positions, BTW, include such things as bringing our troops home, protecting ALL Ten Amendments that comprise the Bill of Rights, and not raising the debt ceiling.

He's been endorsed by Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Justin Amash, and the Republican Liberty Caucus. The GOP Establishment has gone so far as to call Bentivolio "Ron Paul on steroids." Interestingly, I met Kerry Bentivolio at a local meeting of Ron Paul supporters. Then I saw him on stage with Ron Paul at a campaign event entitled "Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen for Ron Paul 2012" (Bentivolio is a veteran of three wars). Finally, he was endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus, which I'm a member of.
