Well, it's the fact it connects to the thunderbolt port in the long run.

Thunderbolt is RIDICULOUSLY fast... Makes USB 3 look like a slow walk.

Even PC based hardware is going down the thunderbolt route... 10Gbps vs 5Gbps... big time speed improvement.
