Do you know how much they recieve (some examples) per month from sponsors???
I read KAI gets 7k a month from FLEX
There are 3 common ways that athletes get paid from companies
1. They are hired in as a full sponsored athlete. Payment is usually dependent upon their popularity and overall use so it could be from just 12k a year to about 200k. If the athlete has to attend a show working a booth or etc then air, travel, meal, and hotel expenses are taken care of. No money ever comes out of their pocket for that. They are hired in as independent contractors so they have to get their own health insurance and keep track of their taxes. Usually the contracts are for 1 year at a time.
2. They are hired as Athlete/Sales Rep. They are an actual employee so they get paid a general salary....20 to 50k. They usually work your typical 40 hours at the office making calls and selling products along with traveling around working the booths. They also get commission on the number of accounts they set up so it can be very lucrative if they work hard. Because they are employees...health insurance and all the other stuff is covered for them and they can work there for years.
3. On Call Athlete. These are usually athletes that are hired specifically to work a weekend event....usually fitness and figure competitors. The cost of air, travel, and meals are prearranged and they typically get about 8-15 dollars an hour for booth work...sometimes they get commission for sales but generally not because they are typically used for eye candy to get people to check out the booth or handing out supplements and stuff. Its not much but it allows them to go to the shows at no cost and get exposure for better opportunities.
