Bottled water does not have to be regulated in any way, not by the city, state or the FDA.  Water that comes out of you tap is regulated by the state you live in and has federal standards they must meet.  That being said bottled water could be from a river with a deer pissing upstream but as long as it taste good and makes no one sick its ok, so city water is definately safer though it may not taste as well.  Now if you have a city thats water supply is from a deep well ( such as mine) the water taste great and requires little treatment, but if you have a city that gets its water from a surface supply its very likely that it taste like ass.

I just fill gallon jugs with tap water and put them in my fridge.  Once its cold enough you can't taste the difference.

I have a 2000 gal cistern. we collect rainfall off of our roof and run it through a charcoal filter before we drink it, it is some damn good water.
We have a well that smells of sulfur and city water for backup but after drinking rain water for a few years it is really easy to taste all of the chemicals in city water.

That said, Rome has awesome water that runs out of fountains throughout the city.

They're not still using lead plumbing? ???

Perhaps in SOME more remote areas, but in city areas you'd be getting all the atmosphere "pollution"

Our roof is made of steel, the first bit of rain washes the roof before any water is collected.

How safe is Tap water ?  I think alot of shit you buy at the store like Spring Water, Distilled etc is bullshit they probably just put tap water in a container and sell it. Anybody else chime in.

Something tells me water isn't the only thing "Mr Nobody" gets straight from the tap :-X

Bottled water isn‘t fluoridated. My family drinks tap water. Fluoridation was a massive boon to mankind.

Some water companies have been known to simply bottle filtered tap water and then slap a picture of green mountain streams on the label, "suggesting" it is spring water. Usually, the label will contain the source of the water - if it is filtered or collected from a more natural location.

I use a water filter at home and at work.

Some?? they all do!

Do you think they go up the mountain with some bottles and have lil fairies fill em up? It's tap water they're using, straight from the tap on the industrial site the bottling is done.
You're paying a X1000 price mark up compared to your communal tap water.

Nobel Prize winner disagrees with you:

Quote
a world-famous doctor has expressed strong opposition to water fluoridation.

"I would advise against fluoridation. Individual prophylaxis (treatment) is preferable on principle grounds and is as equally effective," says Dr. Arvid Carlsson of Sweden, co-winner of last year's Nobel Prize for medicine.
