Black men do exhibit odd behavior when stressful situations arise.     If you have ever watched the tv show The First 48, you must of certainly noticed how odd most black men act in the interview room when being questioned by the Police.   Most of them react the same odd way when shit hits the fan...  They slip their arms underneath their shirts, or pull their shirts over their heads, tucking in their arms, and cower in the corner of the interview room.    I've noticed this, episode after episode.

It was a bit of an overreaction but whether their reaction can be attributed to their blackness is open to debate.  Athletes, and particularly athletes at that level, are notoriously self centered individuals who have been glad handed their whole lives.  This enviornment doesn't encourage empathy/sympathy.

It was pussified, but I'm not sure if I completely agree with TJ.  That they didn't haul ass over to talk to the injured kid faster is limp, but these "young black men crying about something that didn't even happen to them" -- well, shit.  What's wrong with a little empathy?  They were being pussies, but at least they could put themselves in his shoes (no pun intended!) enough to be moved by it.

I am tempted to posit that, but already know, it cannot be just genetic; black folk quickly resort to anarchy when a strong sense of order isn't imposed (e.g., Somalia), but so have other ethnicities.  I'd say it's as much "nurture" as is nature.  After all, these particular kids are used to being told what to do.  The game's at 7, practice at 5, go to class and at least give the appearance you're earning a degree, you better not snort coke off hookers' tits or I'll bench your ass, etc.  Kinda of like the old days, when massa said, alright, let's wake up now and pick cotton; let's work faster, y'all are dogging it; okay, that's a day, pack it in.  They let their emotions run away with them and needed a cool-headed leader to direct them.  That's also why so many sport stars piss all of their money away.  No one tells them, "Gee, DeeQuay, maybe you should plan for the future and, y'know, not spend 10 times what you earn."

P
I played sports my entire life. Whenever one of my boys got hurt, we knew to act COOL, to try to diffuse and downplay the situation no matter how bad the injury may be.( And yes I've seen compound tib/fib fractures in real life. ) this is what men do, remain calm and strong under pressure. That's the best reaction to a situation.  Common sense says control your emotions and avoid the monkey business these boys participated in. It only made it worse for Ware; it was a selfish , weak reaction to this unfortunate injury.

You've got a point there.  All the crying and such IS selfish; what if their downed comrade saw that?

I couldn't agree more that real men would swallow their feelings and, as Ayn Rand used to say, not sacrifice higher priorities for lesser ones.  Go over to the teammate, encourage him, try to get a laugh out of him before they could slip him an injection of morphine.

most would probably opt out of a race war, just not a fight worth fighting, unless  it was for food or hoes

When black men get handcuffed on Cops, they start rapidly repeating "sir what'd I do? sir what'd I do?".

They've committed so many crimes they need the cops to be specific so they know what crime to deny and which cousins house they are going to lie about being at.  Simple homey math.
